Job Title: Senior Supplier Quality Engineer — Aerospace (Remote)
Location: Remote (Southern California / Los Angeles Metropolitan Area)
Reports to: Quality Control Manager - Supplier Quality
Travel: 30%–50% (domestic & international supplier visits, audits, NPI support)
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer (Aerospace) to lead supplier quality strategy, supplier development, and compliance across our global supply base. This role is hands-on, technical, and strategic — ideal for an experienced aerospace quality professional who can drive supplier performance improvements, ensure regulatory and design conformity (AS, FAA/EASA expectations), lead complex root-cause investigations, and represent Quality during supplier audits and new product introductions.
Essential Functions
+ Own supplier quality for assigned commodity groups: supplier qualification, periodic audits (system & process), performance monitoring and escalation. The assignments will be focused on the Southern California / Los Angeles region.
+ Lead and conduct supplier audits as applicable; prepare audit reports and drive corrective/preventive actions.
+ Manage supplier performance metrics (PPM/RPPM, DPPM, OTD, First Pass Yield) and develop supplier scorecards; present trends and improvement plans to stakeholders.
+ Support supplier development programs: capability studies, control plans, process capability (Cp/Cpk), MSA, SPC, PFMEA/CFMEA input, and machine/process upgrades.
+ Review, approve, and enforce supplier deliverables: First Article Inspection (AS9102 FAI), PPAP where applicable, certificates of conformance (CoC), test reports, material certs, and export/ITAR documentation.
+ Lead cross-functional failure investigations using structured methodologies (8D, DMAIC, Ishikawa, 5 Whys); drive containment, root cause, corrective actions, and effectiveness verification.
+ Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and design changes: supplier readiness, lot approval, production validation, and escalation of supply risk.
+ Implement and maintain supplier risk assessments (quality, delivery, regulatory); coordinate supplier corrective actions and supplier change approvals.
+ Liaise with Procurement, Engineering, Program Management, and Regulatory to ensure compliance to contractual and regulatory requirements (FAA/EASA/Export/ITAR as applicable).
+ Help maintain supplier quality records in QMS/ERP; generate management-level reports and dashboards (Power BI / Excel).
+ Mentor and coach junior supplier quality engineers; lead continuous improvement initiatives across the supplier network.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Industrial Engineering or related field.
+ 7+ years experience in Aerospace in a quality / engineering / manufacturing role (or closely regulated industry).
+ Proven experience conducting supplier audits and supplier development in aerospace supply chains.
+ Strong working knowledge of AS9100/AS9145/AS9102 (FAI), NADCAP, and other applicable aerospace standards and regulations.
+ Demonstrated expertise with quality tools: 8D, RCA, FMEA, SPC, MSA, Gage R&R, PPAP/FAI, CAPA systems, and statistical analysis (Cp/Cpk).
+ Experience with supplier risk management, corrective action ownership, and cross-functional escalation.
+ Excellent communication skills — able to lead supplier negotiations, present to senior management, and collaborate across global teams.
+ Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% with the majority of travel locally within the Southern California region. Included in that is up to 30% travel to visit other suppliers worldwide.
+ Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred / Highly Desired
+ Certifications: ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Six Sigma Black Belt, AS9100 Lead Auditor.
+ Experience with ITAR/EAR compliance, FAA DER/PMA exposure, or military specification (MIL‑STD) environments.
+ Familiarity with supplier quality systems such as IQS, Scorecarding tools, SAP/Oracle, and data analysis tools (Minitab, Power BI).
+ Experience leading supplier transitions and sustaining production through complex ramp-ups.

+ Reduction in supplier non-conformance (measured in RPPM) year-over-year
+ Improvement in supplier on-time delivery and first pass yield
+ Corrective Action Management: Time-to-containment, time-to-root-cause for priority escapes, and Corrective Action Effectiveness
