Scope of PositionThe Optical Physics & Materials department, part of the Optical Physics Capability within Corning’s Materials & Interactions Division is seeking a talented and innovative professional to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute to ground breaking advancements in display optics, augmented reality, fiber optics, and more for both current and future Corning products.
Optical Physics & Materials leverages expertise in optical physics, material science, process engineering, and optical metrology development to pioneer cutting edge new technologies. We are looking for a scientist or engineer with a strong foundation in optical physics and engineering that is capable of developing innovation new solutions for applications that span our optical communications, display, and advanced optics businesses.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities Propose and execute new research concepts to advance the fundamental understanding of light-matter interactions, including interactions with materials such as glass, ceramics, polymers. Build expertise in optics and materials science, and consult with subject matter experts across various business units or research departments to foster innovation and drive impactful solutions. Translate experimental findings and theoretical insights into new optical products or manufacturable processes. Document innovations, experimental results, and process outcomes; generate and file invention disclosures to protect intellectual property. Leadership of technical project teams to deliver impactful solutions both in research and development Guide team members to understand the impact and priority of their work by helping them to develop value propositions and support technical interactions with customers/stakeholders 10% travel for customer/plant/conference, some international Experiences/Education - Required PhD degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science with at least 10 years of industry experience, demonstrating a proven track record of innovation. Programming skills (Python, Matlab, Comsol, Lumerical) or other lab automation techniques. Hands-on experience in building and executing experiments in free space optics, integrated photonics, and optical fiber, electronics, opto-mechanical systems and programming. Strong attention to detail Strong analytical and statistical skills, ability to interpret complex data Skills in project management, budget development, and team development Proficiency in communication, both written and oral, to articulate complex scientific concepts clearlyExperiences/Education - Desired Background in materials science or materials used in photonic and optical applications Demonstrated track record of cross-functional collaboration and delivery of innovative technologies Proven track record in people management Ability to communicate and work cross-functionally, understanding functionality of all parts of the innovation pipeline and tailor work/ communications to suit various parts of the organization

The range for this position is $139,499.00 - $191,812.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
