Sr. Specialist, Estimating and Cost Analyst - Las Vegas, NV

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:

Oversees the Estimating and Cost Control function for one or more projects across Nevada, including cost accounting, cash flow, budgeting and forecasting analysis ensuring a consistent and quality approach to project estimating and cost control. This role holds direct responsibility for the accuracy of cost estimates, the integrity of cost tracking systems, and the implementation of corrective actions when deviations from the approved budget are identified.

 

Role Accountabilities:

Develop capital cost estimates and budgets for all project phases in conjunction with the EPCM and the Owner’s team. Ensure the final capital estimate is in line with the AGA minimum criteria for an estimate within the specified classification as determined by the governance standard. Maintain the estimate plan and basis of estimate for the project with the support of the EPCM. Monitor cost trends and identify deviations, variances, and risks; recommend corrective actions. Evaluate cost impacts of scope changes, trends and claims and make recommendations to mitigate any associated cost risk to the projects. Ensure changes are properly assessed and incorporated into the project forecast and reporting systems. Produce accurate and timely cost reports, including variance analyses, cash flows, and forecasts. Participate and/or lead any internal and external audit processes. Implement project cost control framework, including WBS structures, and coding standards to ensure traceability and integration with project schedule. Work alongside the Specialist Project Scheduler to ensure the specific project’s monies are cash-flowed according to the approved project task schedule. Keep abreast of the AGA yearly business planning economic parameters as well as the global price trends for various commodities to ensure the appropriate escalation is applied within the capital estimate. Understand the AGA End to End Capital Management Process and ensure compliance to this when estimating projects and studies.

 

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

Compile project management documentation pertaining to the project cost estimate. Based on the accuracy of the specified project’s scope, design and risk level, is required to ensure the appropriate contingency percentage is applied in the capital estimate. Influence the key stakeholders at the Business Units and mine sites to source information on time for reporting. Ability to utilize the RACI and communications plan to drive project communication and gain value from effective use of these plans. Ability to identify, recognize and acknowledge stakeholders to determining their influence and interests. Ability to establish a communication management plan across a portfolio of projects. Demonstrated analytical thinking. Demonstrated capability in organizing work, setting priorities and exercising sound independent judgement. Sound understanding of components and key drivers of the mining value chain. Strong ability to lead and work effectively with people. Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

A Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in a similar role, ideally in the mining or heavy industry sector. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Logistics, or related fields, Master’s degree and/or CPA or CMA a plus. Knowledge of mining operations and industry-specific regulations. Proven experience working with SAP or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Oracle or Microsoft dynamics.

 

REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five (5) seven (7) year’s experience in the process and extractive industries. Minimum five to seven years as an estimator working in capital management and reporting within the mining industry. Working and creating project dashboards for reporting with PowerBi or similar. Familiarity with internationally accepted best practice project management techniques and principles.

 

Legal Requirements:

This role requires a valid driver's license to drive company vehicle to and from the project site.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

This is a full-time Exempt position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday – Friday or as directed by the supervisor to include travel to and from the Beatty, Nevada site or other areas as needed. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. As per operational requirements.

 

COMPENSATION:

 

Base Salary Range - $100,000 - $130,000
