Job Description:
The ideal candidate will lead U.S. military Modeling & Simulation (M&S) efforts with senior-level responsibilities in the design, development, integration, and maintenance of complex simulation systems used for training, analysis, and decision support in defense environments at our Suffolk, Virginia headquarters. The candidate will serve as a technical leader, making critical software architecture decisions, mentoring development teams, and driving innovation in simulation technologies. This role requires extensive experience in software engineering and deep understanding of military systems, simulation standards, and advanced real-time/constructive simulations.
The candidate performs the following specific assignments:Leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex simulation software for military training and analysisMakes critical software architecture decisions and leads technical design reviewsDrives integration of models and simulations with advanced C4ISR systems, data sources, and external interfaces using DIS, HLA, DDS, and emerging protocolsTranslates complex operational military requirements into highly scalable and reusable software architecturesDevelops and validates advanced simulation scenarios, models, and system behaviors to meet stringent fidelity and performance requirementsLeads collaboration with systems engineers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and military users to validate and verify complex simulation capabilitiesEnsures compliance with advanced software development standards, security guidelines, and configuration management practicesAuthors comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture specifications, design documents, and research papersMentors and provides technical leadership to development teamsDrives innovation in M&S technologies and recommends emerging solutionsLeads system integration efforts and complex troubleshooting activitiesConducts advanced requirements analysis and leads system design activitiesRepresents SimIS in technical discussions with customers and stakeholders
Experience Required:Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fieldOR Master's degree with 7+ years of relevant software development experienceAt least 5 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in the M&S domainExpert-level proficiency in multiple programming languages: C++, C#, Java, PythonExtensive experience with simulation frameworks such as HLA, DIS, OneSAF, JSAF, VBS, and emerging M&S technologiesDeep knowledge of DoD M&S standards and tools (STOW, RTI, SISO standards)
Experience Desired:Research experience in advanced modeling and simulation techniquesExtensive knowledge of military doctrine, tactics, and operational scenariosExperience with advanced GIS, terrain databases, and synthetic environment generationExpertise in containerization technologies (OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes)Experience with cloud platforms and distributed simulation environmentsPublished research in M&S or related fieldsExperience leading technical teams and mentoring developersAdvanced knowledge of AI/ML applications in simulation
