Sr. Settlements Analyst, Commercial Accounting & Settlements
Talen Energy is seeking a qualified professional with proven experience and results to join our Commercial Accounting team as a Sr. Settlements Analyst for our office in Houston, Texas. The Sr. Settlements Analyst is a critical member of the accounting and finance organization responsible for the accounting, settlement, reporting, and analysis activities of the energy marketing division as well as collaborating with corporate accounting to work towards best practices and strengthen internal controls. The successful Sr. Analyst will directly collaborate with team members, project groups, information technology and cross functional teams to support continuous process improvements and changing business needs. This role is primarily responsible for the verification, validation, and processing of transactional data related to power transactions in the PJM Interconnection wholesale energy markets. This role ensures the accuracy of settlement calculations, compliance with PJM market rules, and timely customer invoicing. **How You’ll Power the Future** **_At Talen Energy, your work fuels progress. In this role, you’ll do more than contribute you’ll drive meaningful change by:_** Perform Monthly Accounting Close and Settlement duties: + Manage the timely and accurate settlement of PJM energy market transactions + Reconcile and provide in-depth analysis of variances between actual and expected power revenues and costs + Provide guidance on ISO market rules for PJM + Develop and maintain procedures to ensure all ISO related activity is processed and reconciled in a timely manner + Compile, review and record monthly PJM journal entries + Settlement of wholesale and retail power and fuel expense transactions + Coordinate with counterparties to timely resolve billing discrepancy or follow up with past due accounts receivables + Monthly accrual of physical and financial wholesale power and fuel expense transactions + Preparation and recording of various journal entries + Compile Balance Sheet account reconciliations and flux analysis, with emphasis on communicating period over period changes to management. + Timely contract review Perform Quarterly Reporting duties: + Prepare quarterly period over period flux analysis for assigned Balance Sheet accounts, and present findings of analysis to management + Prepare workpapers for quarterly Audit requests + Assist in the preparation of FERC EQR filings Communication: + Work and communicate with various internal groups to compile and analyze data, including Contract Administration, Front and Middle Offices, Accounting, Financial Reporting, Settlements, Treasury, Credit, Information Technology (IT) and Legal Process Improvements + Acting as a change agent to identify and implement process improvements to promote best practices Support functions: + Interface with auditors to provide information and support as requested + Assist and manage testing of ETRM or ERP system upgrades or implementation **What you have:** + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or similar field is required. + Minimum of 5 or more years of progressive experience in energy/generation industry with a minimum of 3 years in settlements using and ETRM’s and shadow settlement tools. + Natural problem solver who welcomes and promotes change. + Highly analytical with the ability to conceptualize, boil down, and clearly communicate complex ideas to varying audiences. + Ability to prepare reports and present ideas clearly and concisely to all levels of the organization both orally and written. + Motivated, self-directed, and results-driven with a strong aptitude towards accepting ownership of assigned tasks. + Personal commitment to integrity and achievement of departmental and business goals. + Effective interpersonal and communication skills (e.g., oral, written and listening). + Ability to multi-task various responsibilities and deliver on priority deliverables under compressed timelines. + Ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment. + Proficiency in Microsoft office with advanced Excel skills (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex IF/THEN statements). + Experience with multiple power markets preferred. + Ability to work with databases and perform simple SQL queries a plus ​ **Why Talen Energy?** _Power the Future_ Talen Energy is one of the largest competitive energy and power generation companies in North America.
