Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Mission Systems sector site in Apopka, FL. This position is to lead the structural and thermal analysis of laser and optical systems for handheld, ground, and airborne products.

What You'll Get To Do:

Candidate will be responsible for performing hand calculations, in running Structural and/or Thermal analysis using ANSYS. For structural analysis candidate will be responsible for fatigue, modal, shock, and vibration analysis; For thermal analysis candidate will perform static and transient analysis to determine thermal stresses, deformation using all three modes of heat transfer. The Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer will also prepare presentations and clearly present the data to stakeholders. Will work within a multi-discipline team to support root cause corrective action (RCCA) analysis and generate engineering change notices (ECNs), update models and drawings, and release the appropriate documentation using configuration management software.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Running Structural FEA/Simulations using ANSYS and/or Thermal FEA/Simulations using ANSYS and/or IcePakCreating or modifying mechanical models using 3D CAD software such as CREO and/or NX.Performing structural and/or thermal hand calculations using Excel, Matlab, or PythonGenerating reports and summarizing simulations/analysis results and presenting to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner  Based on results, recommending generation of Problem Reports, Change Notifications, and/or Engineering Change Notifications and processing them through the Configuration Management database

Basic Qualifications:

B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM Degree and 8 years of related, professional experience; or a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM Degree with 6 years of related/ professional experienceExperienced in the use of 3D CADProficiency to do Structural and/or Thermal Finite Element Analysis in ANSYSExperience leading mechanical design activitiesUS Citizenship is requiredMust be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance. Must be able to obtain this level of clearance for continued employment.


Preferred Qualifications:

Active Secret ClearanceProficiency in optical-mechanical analysis Knowledgeable in the use of CREO and/or NX CAD experienceExperience in Icepak and/or Thermal DesktopKnowledge of analysis required for Space SystemsFamiliarity with ANSI Y14.5M GD&T specificationsExperience with military specificationsExperienced in writing and manipulating MATLAB and/or Python scripts

Primary Level Salary Range: $107,800.00 - $161,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
