Sr. Payroll Analyst

As part of the Databricks Payroll team, you will join a dynamic global organization that is helping our customers solve some of their toughest problems. You will also ensure our employees are paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with all requirements—allowing them to focus on doing their best work. This role is ideal for a payroll professional who loves hands-on processing, thrives on problem-solving, and brings strong system skills to handle complex payroll cases without needing to escalate.

The Senior Workday Payroll Analyst will be responsible for full-cycle payroll processing for the United States and Canada, serving as a key point of Tier 2 and, in some cases, Tier 3 payroll system support. You will work closely with our payroll vendors, HR, Finance, and other business partners to ensure accuracy, compliance, and a great employee experience. LATAM payroll knowledge is a plus for backup coverage but not required.

This role reports to the Senior Manager, Payroll.

The Impact You Will Have Full-cycle payroll ownership – Accurately and timely process US and Canadian payroll for exempt, nonexempt, and cross-border employees Advanced payroll system support – Act as a Tier 2/Tier 3 resource for Workday payroll, resolving complex cases, identifying root causes, and preventing recurrence Payroll tax expertise – Manage end-to-end payroll tax processes, including researching and resolving tax notices, reconciling tax filings, processing tax adjustments, and preparing/submitting quarterly and year-end amendments Compliance excellence – Ensure adherence to payroll controls, SOX requirements, and statutory regulations in both the US and Canada Process improvement – Identify opportunities for streamlining payroll operations and scaling processes while maintaining a high degree of accuracy Documentation and knowledge sharing – Maintain and improve payroll process documentation, and mentor junior team members on best practices Cross-functional collaboration – Partner with HR, Finance, Benefits, and external vendors to deliver seamless payroll operations SME participation – Serve as a subject matter expert in projects, system enhancements, and testing initiatives

What We Look For Payroll processing expertise – 5+ years of payroll processing experience, with at least 3 years in US payroll and 2+ years in Canadian payroll Payroll tax mastery – Proven experience handling payroll tax processes from start to finish, including tax research, notice resolution, filing reconciliations, adjustments, and quarterly/year-end amendments System proficiency – 3+ years of Workday Payroll experience, including creating/editing pay components and basic reporting Technical skills – Advanced Excel capabilities (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas) and ability to adapt quickly to new technologies Compliance knowledge – Strong understanding of US and Canadian payroll tax requirements; experience with equity transactions, sourced income, and expat shadow payrolls is a plus Vendor collaboration – Proven experience partnering with payroll vendors for issue resolution and ongoing process optimization Analytical mindset – Ability to investigate and resolve complex payroll issues using data-driven decision-making Soft skills – Strong communication, organizational skills, and cultural awareness; comfortable working independently and collaboratively Nice to have – LATAM payroll experience (Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica) for occasional backup coverage Why You’ll Love This Role This position is perfect for someone who: Wants to be the go-to payroll processor for US and Canada.
