Sr. Nurse Practitioner - #Staff
The Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine is seeking an experienced Pediatric Acute Care **_Sr._** **_Nurse Practitioner_** to join the Blalock Taussig Thomas Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center for the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU). The Senior Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team and would be responsible for providing comprehensive care to critically ill children with congenital and acquired heart disease. In addition to the duties of the Nurse Practitioner, the Sr. Nurse Practitioner will (1) provide guidance and direction to others contributing to the development of the staff, (2) model highly effective skills and clinical judgment, (3) champion change and innovation through the application of research and participation in unit and hospital wide committees, and (4) demonstrate exceptional problem solving skills for clinical and operational issues The 12 bed PCICU provides state-of-the-art cardiac critical care to infants, children, and adolescents with both medical and post-surgical cardiac disease. Our multi-disciplinary team provides the full spectrum of contemporary cardiac critical care including pediatric heart transplant, a robust extracorporeal support team including ECMO and mechanical circulatory devices including Berlin Heart, PediMag/CentriMag, and ventricular assist devices. Our PCICU NPs independently manage their own patients and work directly with 8 attending cardiac intensivists as an integral part of our care team. As the birthplace of pediatric cardiac surgery, Johns Hopkins has been at the forefront of caring for children with congenital heart disease. The PCICU team is the centerpiece of our rapidly growing Heart Center. Our team works closely with cardiovascular surgery, cardiac anesthesia, and cardiology to provide a team-based approach to patient care in all locations within the Heart Center. Additionally, the PCICU NP works closely with physicians and other APPs in our cardiac step-down unit. The ability to work collaboratively with a variety of disciplines and roles is integral to the PCICU NP role. The Department of Pediatric Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins is one of the premier departments in the country and one of the most highly funded pediatric critical care divisions with current areas of research including ECMO, quality and safety in congenital heart care, simulation and CPR quality, early mobility, and developmental outcomes for critically ill children. The ability to work effectively with faculty and multi-disciplinary teams is particularly important. Applicants for the Senior Nurse Practitioner position should have at least three years of experience as a pediatric cardiac critical care or other equivalent experience as a nurse practitioner **Specific Duties and Responsibilities** + Conducts comprehensive and/or episodic health assessments for critically ill children. + Records and documents assessment data necessary to maintain, coordinate, and/or expedite required services. + Perform history and physical exams, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings. + Identify differential diagnosis. _Establishes a Plan of Care including,_ + Order appropriate lab, radiographic and other studies. + Appropriately interpret results of lab, radiographic and other studies. + Performs tests and procedures as indicated within scope of practice. + Establish a plan of care related to patient’s identified problems, including medication and therapeutic procedures. + Consult with other team members regarding proposed treatment guidelines as necessary. _Implements Plan of Care in safe and effective manner._ + Prescribe and regulate medications and performs other related procedures within the Maryland Board of Nursing scope of practice for the Nurse Practitioner. + Record patient visit/interaction in concise clear logical and timely manner. + Arrange referrals to appropriate specialties when needed. + Triage patient telephone calls, messages, and interactions appropriately. + Tracks patient compliance with treatment plan. _Organizes workload to meet patient and organizational needs._ + Utilize time management to see patients in an efficient manner as identified by departmental goals. + Maintain consistent level of productivity. Identifies problems that impede overall functioning and initiates appropriate interventions. + Work collaboratively with the health team members to facilitate smooth operations of the unit. _Communicates with healthcare team members to assure patient and organizational needs are met._ + Supervise activities of team members as appropriate. + Identify areas of weakness in operational systems and makes recommendations for improvements. + Communicate significant information in an organized, logical, and concise manner to co-workers. + Provide constructive feedback as it relates to performance in an appropriate manner. + Adheres to the confidentiality policy as outlined in the interdisciplinary Clinical Practice Manual. + Make recommendations to administrative leadership related to clinical and administrative operations. + Analyzes research findings and current trends in the area of specialty and applies the information, as appropriate, to improve the management of patient care. + Participates in the development of the interdisciplinary team. + Orients newly hired nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students. + Provides formal and informal education for members of the interdisciplinary team. + Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assure organizational goals are met. + Active participation in unit-based committee. + Active participation in quality and safety initiatives. + Supports the institutions Core Values. **Minimum Qualifications** + Master's Degree in Nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in the State of Maryland or other state where practicing. + Minimum of 3 year's experience in related clinical area and obtained proficiency in the area of specialty. Five years related experience preferred. + Residency or fellowship programs in the area of specialization may substitute for some experience. + Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Classified Title: Sr. Nurse Practitioner Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/MG Starting Salary Range: $100,000 - $152,900 Annually ($120,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
