In this role, you will lead the development of proprietary technologies that form a 360-degree view of each customer—powering next-generation, AI-driven personalization at unprecedented scale. Your work will sit at the intersection of transformer models, vector embeddings, knowledge graphs, semantic search, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
You will:
Lead innovation in Generative AI and large language models (LLMs) to deliver experiences uniquely tailored to each customer.
Architect and deploy systems that use multi-modal inputs, foundational models, and large-scale customer data to personalize interactions across Amazon’s global businesses.
Partner across organizations to ensure these AI technologies scale and deliver measurable customer and business impact.

Key job responsibilities
Lead engineering teams building scalable AI systems that deliver personalized experiences across Amazon’s global portfolio, including retail, entertainment, devices, and more.
Define and drive the technical strategy and architecture for customer understanding models, enabling real-time, AI-powered personalization at massive scale.
Collaborate with senior leaders and partner teams across Amazon—including Prime Video, Alexa, Kindle, and Stores—to deliver cohesive, customer-centric experiences.
Design and implement solutions leveraging vector embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and other modern AI/ML techniques to enhance customer relevance and engagement.
Build and mentor high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and ownership.
Ensure operational excellence for critical AI systems, maintaining high availability, reliability, and performance.
Partner with product and business teams to align technical execution with long-term strategic goals for customer intelligence and personalization.
Lead regular reviews with Amazon senior leadership—including updates to the CEO—on progress, impact, and roadmap for this company-wide initiative.
About the team
This is a deeply hands-on and cross-functional role. You’ll spend your day diving into technical design docs, reviewing personalization model outputs on Amazon.com, and evaluating the quality of AI-generated responses across surfaces like Alexa and Fire TV. You’ll actively partner with engineers to refine architecture, with scientists to shape experimentation, and with product and UX teams to ensure what we build truly serves the customer.
As a servant leader, you’ll focus not just on outcomes but on people—mentoring principal applied scientists, senior engineers, and product leaders to grow in scope and impact. You’ll guide a team that includes engineering, science, product, and UX, helping them align around a shared vision and delivering personalized experiences that scale across Amazon.
