Role Overview
The Senior IT Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining resilient, scalable, and secure enterprise infrastructure across data centre, network, and core backbone environments. Operating with limited supervision, the role partners closely with business and technical stakeholders to translate operational needs into robust technology solutions.
This position requires deep hands‑on expertise across physical data‑centre infrastructure, fibre and SAN topology design, power and electrical systems, network backbone administration, and service management platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Design & Engineering
Collaborate independently with user groups and business stakeholders to identify infrastructure requirements and resolve complex technical challenges using hardware, software, databases, and peripheral systems.
Design, implement, administer, and upgrade data‑centre and core backbone network infrastructure to support business growth and availability targets.
Architect and review fibre optic ring and backbone topologies to ensure redundancy, scalability, and high availability.
Design and administer SAN fabric architectures and topology supporting enterprise data‑centre environments.
Review, interpret, and validate logical and physical network topology diagrams to support infrastructure planning and deployment.
Data Centre & Physical Infrastructure
Perform and oversee rack‑and‑stack deployments, ensuring optimal layout, airflow, power distribution, and cabling standards.
Lead or support IT electrical installations, including UPS, PDU, ATS, and power distribution best practices.
Provide hands‑on expertise within data‑centre environments, including build‑outs, upgrades, break‑fix, and optimisation activities.
Provision infrastructure equipment for upgrades and expansions, ensuring compliance with design standards and deployment timelines.
Service Management & Operations
Operate with limited supervision in managing infrastructure incidents, changes, and improvements.
Utilise ServiceNow, Infrastructure Technology Architecture (ITA), and Data Centre Expert (DCE) platforms for:
Asset and capacity reporting
Change design and impact analysis
Alerting, monitoring, and operational visibility
Maintain accurate technical documentation, topology diagrams, procedures, and standards.
Continuous Improvement & Technology Awareness
Apply strong technical judgement in development, process optimisation, re‑engineering, and infrastructure modernisation initiatives.
Maintain current knowledge of emerging infrastructure technologies, tools, and industry best practices.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams as required.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Experience
3-7+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, data‑centre, or network engineering roles (senior specialist level).
Proven experience designing and supporting enterprise data‑centre environments, including power, cabling, rack layout, and hardware lifecycle management.
Hands‑on expertise with SAN storage environments and fabric designs (e.g., Fibre Channel, redundancy models, topology optimisation).
Strong experience provisioning and installing infrastructure hardware for network and data‑centre upgrades.
Technical Skills

Rack & stack, structured cabling, and infrastructure standards

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Certifications (Advantageous)
CCNA / CCNP / CCDP
ITIL
Data‑centre or vendor‑specific certifications (e.g. SAN, network, power systems).
