Sr. HW Regulatory Compliance Engineer
Amazon.com
Amazon Lab126 is an inventive research and development company that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics. Lab126 began in 2004 as a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., originally creating the best-selling Kindle family of products. Since then, we have produced devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV, Echo, Ring, and Blink — icons of ambient computing reaching hundreds of millions of customers worldwide. What will you help us create?
The Hardware Safety & Compliance (HWSC) team is the critical bridge between bold hardware innovation and worldwide market access. We don't just check boxes — we embed compliance into the DNA of product design from Day 1, ensuring that hundreds of millions of devices meet the highest standards for safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and radio frequency performance across 100+ countries.
We're looking for a Sr. HW Regulatory Compliance Engineer based in China who excels at hands-on execution of compliance testing, certification, and factory-level validation across our product portfolio. You will work closely with contract manufacturers (CMs), in-region test laboratories, and cross-functional engineering teams to drive EMC and RF compliance from engineering builds through mass production. You will be experienced in Radio Frequency (RF) and ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing, debugging, and product certification processes. You will have strong familiarity with North American and international regulatory standards. You will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to validate and certify innovative wireless consumer electronic products.
This is a hands-on, execution-focused engineering role where your work directly determines whether Amazon can achieve certification milestones on schedule and maintain compliance across production lines. You will be the HWSC team's on-the-ground presence in China — coordinating test lab activities, supporting CM builds, debugging compliance issues in real time, and ensuring production units meet all certification requirements. This role requires approximately 20% travel to test laboratories and CM sites. You must be analytical, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively across multiple teams and time zones. Additionally, you must excel at communicating compliance status and technical findings clearly to both local engineering teams and global HWSC leadership.
Key job responsibilities
• Execute end-to-end compliance testing and certification activities for product programs — from engineering builds through mass production, ensuring all regulatory milestones are met on schedule
• Work closely with the product design team by researching and specifying regulatory and industry compliance requirements, with emphasis on China, FCC, IC, CE, and other international certification schemes
• Drive hands-on EMI/EMC and RF compliance testing and debugging — partnering with Electrical, Mechanical, and Wireless engineers to resolve compliance issues at the circuit, layout, firmware, or mechanical design level
• Manage day-to-day relationships with in-region 3rd party test laboratories — planning, scheduling, and directing compliance testing to drive first-pass certification success
• Support CM site compliance activities — validating that production configurations, shielding, grounding, and assembly processes maintain compliance established during development
• Debug compliance failures at the root-cause level — understanding why at the circuit, layout, firmware, or mechanical design level, and driving the fix with engineering teams in real time
• Coordinate with global HWSC team members to align on compliance strategies, share test results, and escalate issues that may impact product launch timelines
• Perform detailed, independent research and literature reviews to yield actionable conclusions to ambiguous regulatory compliance issues
• Deliver concise and informative compliance status updates to global HWSC leadership, translating test results and certification progress into clear schedule impact assessments
• Work with manufacturing partners to test and ensure all in-production devices remain compliant with all certifications, including production line testing validation
• Maintain compliance documentation, test reports, and certification records with thoroughness and accuracy to support audits and market access filings
• Contribute to best practices and mechanisms that prevent repeat compliance issues and improve certification efficiency across the device portfolio
