Sr. Financial Compliance Analyst

The opportunity: 

The Financial Compliance Sr. Analyst opportunity will report to the Financial Compliance Manager and will be responsible for supporting the company’s internal controls over financial reporting, compliance with internal financial policies, and business resiliency. This position will also support various transformational activities in partnership with process owners and help manage integrated projects when process improvements include financial process or impact material process changes.  

 

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with financial statement or internal control audits and a strong understanding of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) and PCAOB requirements. The candidate should have a good understanding of working with individuals across an organization. The candidate should have an understanding in a distributed manufacturing environment with the skills necessary to influence people in a fast-growing global company. 

 

 

How you will impact Smurfit WestRock: 

 

Supports SOX and internal controls programs to confirm the Company’s financial statements are materially accurate and complete  Supports business teams with skills in process and controls management problem solving.  Facilitates effective stakeholder engagement and communications.  Develop and maintain relationships with internal customers across different departments Develops a culture of continuous improvement based on fact based and transparent metrics  Perform other controls and compliance related duties as requested by management 

 

What you need to succeed: 

 

Serve as a company resource in building and maintain a culture of strong financial controls and provide feedback and recommendations on control design  Drive continuous updates to process documentation, including flowcharts, risk/control matrices, and control guides Serve as an escalation point for control information and internal and external audit requests Monitor controls execution and validate relevant documentation meets minimum controls and audit standards  Trains compliance analysts on effective ways to test compliance with internal financial policies and procedures Support the business resiliency program to ensure operations continue operating during IT or application outage Identify risks and gaps in the financial control framework to facilitate remediation Assist in providing training and guidance to business stakeholders on internal controls Working knowledge of finance/accounting processes in terms of transactions, close and reporting, budgeting etc. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to effectively communicate to technical and nontechnical audiences Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment 


Essential qualifications and education: 

5+ years of experience BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. CIA, CISA, or CPA is a plus. Big 4 or public accounting firm experience is a plus Knowledge with Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and SEC internal controls requirements Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor Experience in leading and managing cross-functional teams System implementation experience is a plus Expert User of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint Analytic and data visualization skills (Alteryx, Power BI, Qlikview) is a plus Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills that allow effective interactions/communications with business partners across regional and/or functional lines
