The Opportunity

The Environmental Engineer at our mill in Hodge, LA, ensures the mill achieves environmental compliance as required by permits and law.  The main areas overseen are wastewater, air, solid, and hazardous waste.  The position also requires managing laboratory technicians and ensuring all lab testing and data is done properly

Job Duties/responsibilities:

Routinely engage in safety meetings, programs, and mill safety effortsHelp ensure compliance with existing and proposed federal, state, and local rules and regulationsInterface with regulatory agencies on behalf of the Company or business unitAssist with the development of site environmental goals and monitor key performance metricsSupport incident reporting, response, and corrective action implementationAssist operations with troubleshooting environmental-related issuesAssist in environmental programs including:Title V air permit programMACT programsStack testingGreenhouse Gas (GHG) Monitoring Toxics Release Inventory (TRI)Emissions Inventory Refrigerant ManagementWork with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to obtain and maintain environmental permits. Assist with other environmental programs, including NPDES, Groundwater, SPCC, Solid Waste, Universal Waste, and Hazardous Waste, as neededPrepare a variety of regulatory reports which require data collection, calculations, accurate recordkeeping, and an adherence to regulatory deadlines  Participate in the on-call weekend duty rotationAssit in management of the wastewater treatment systemManaging environmental laboratory and lab techniciansData reporting to LDEQ, USGS, Dept. of Natural Resources, and other state/local agenciesManaging and assisting with projects (dredging, levee repair, maintenance)Environmental inspections/audits throughout the millAccounting/purchasing related to environmental budgetData collection and processing data related to water, air, waste

Critical learning experiences

Prior experience in environmental or related industries preferred.  Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field preferred.   Candidates are required to undergo a drug screening after receiving a conditional job offer, but before starting employment.
