Job Description:
The Senior Engineer Factory Innovation Gum SME is the regional technical expert for gum development and production. They link regional R&D and the factories, engineering and global development teams. The job holder will implement change projects in Mars Wrigley factories impacting product recipes, process technologies and raw materials. They will specify and validate process technologies on start-up to ensure efficient and sustainable scale production meeting all product quality requirements.
What are we looking for?
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, food science, related scientific discipline or equivalent
7+ years’ experience in a closely related industry
Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Systems (HACCP), ISO, Regulatory Guidelines, Sensory, and/or Microbiology.
Demonstrated success influencing/leading others
Approximately 10% travel required
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in engineering, food science, or a closely related scientific or technical discipline with 5+ years’ experience in a closely related industry.
Experience in food packaging and/or processing, with an understanding of processes and machine operation
Six Sigma Green Belt
What will be your key responsibilities?
Advanced technical expert in the operation of process areas in the plant, providing troubleshooting expertise and support for problem solving escalations.
Drive Process Specification Development for planned changes, including documentation of critical process parameters necessary to deliver product KQAs and PQAs. Work with engineering teams to ensure process specifications are sufficient and updated at the completion of projects.
Work cross-functionally with key partners in R&D, Supply Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering and Commercial to ensure effective project execution and ensure timelines are met, and support as required other key business processes.
Support the implementation of change projects in Mars Wrigley factories utilizing the Design for Vertical Startup process.
Key point of contact with gum development and factory teams to provide early visibility of project pipeline into the regional Factory Innovation team.
Work closely with the Regional Factory Innovation Leadership Team to align on risks, resource needs or tensions relating to the projects within the gum area, providing feedback to the relevant teams as required.
Coach and apply Six Sigma problem solving tools (eg FMEA, SIPOC) to evaluate, risk assess, and translate to full scale factory production recipe and process technology changes.
Apply functional expertise to assist the regional FI team in optimization of the work across sites as well as leading the development of improved processes and systems for the entire team.
