Discovery Technology and Platforms is a newly established function within this organization. Its mission is to accelerate molecule discovery by building highly optimized teams, streamlining lab operations through advanced technologies and data connectivity, and intentionally investing in novel technologies and capabilities.
Position Summary:
The Molecular Craftsman within the Molecular Discovery Foundational Platform will lead multi-disciplinary teams to accelerate small molecule design and discovery using modern property-based drug design and various technologies. This role requires a strong blend of scientific vision, operational agility, and collaborative leadership. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker and doer with a proven track record delivering high quality molecules into the clinic. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medicinal Chemist and team player to join the Molecular Discovery group located at the Lilly Seaport Innovation Center (LSC), a research and development facility in the Boston Seaport . This role requires excellent scientific judgment, leadership, and a tenacious desire to bring meaningful medicines to patients.
Responsibilities:
Lead focused multidisciplinary teams with tenacity to solve challenging problems to deliver meaningful medicines that change the lives of patients.
Leverage world-class technologies with internal/external expert partners to craft the drugs of the future via de-novo molecular design.
Lead a small, focused team of experienced medicinal chemists and drive the development and impact of the team
Keep scientific rigor, urgency and impact as your top priority always.
Formulate hypothesis, design and lead the external syntheses of novel small molecules to advance drug discovery programs into the clinic.
Optimize compounds to improve physicochemical properties, potency, selectivity and ADME/DMPK to meet the desired target product profiles required for high-quality medicines.
Engage and collaborate across many scientific disciplines to drive success with aggressive timelines.
Minimum Requirements:
PhD in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry with >10 years post-graduation experience in small molecule programs in either biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
Project leadership example(s), coordinating multiple scientific activities and team members simultaneously across various disciplines to deliver small molecules into development.
Extensive experience in modern, property-based drug design using medicinal chemistry knowledge, SAR analysis, x-ray or cryo-EM structures and computer-assisted modeling
Additional Skills and preferences
Excellent and extensive working knowledge of modern, property-based drug design and discovery within high functioning departments and/or teams.
Excellent English language oral and written communication skills, ability to engage highly effectively as team player in a multidisciplinary and international environment.
Scientific creativity and curiosity with the ability to challenge people/teams in a respectful manner

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$171,000 - $250,800Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
