This is a role that reports directly to the Head of Reagent Manufacturing / Newark Delaware Site and is well suited to an ambitious professional, looking for the next step in their career. As the Sr. Director, External Manufacturing you will lead the team that is responsible for management and direction of external manufacturing partners and developing a long-term 3rd party strategy. This is a highly visible leadership role that will be responsible for managing third party (ODM/OEM) partner supply chain operations for chemistry reagents.

With the continued globalization of supply chains and increased reliance on internal and external partners to meet customer and business needs, the Sr. Director, External Manufacturing will be responsible for and focused on:

Managing and driving improvement in the ETE supply chain with current and future third-party manufacturing (ODM/OEM) partners focusing on supply performance.

Collaborating with CLS Global Supply Planning to drive predictable and accurate planning and delivery; including S&OP (Supply and Operating Plan) processes with the partners.

Leading Cross Functional Teams including Global Supplier Quality, Strategic Procurement, Buyer/Planners, Technical Operations, and Global Supply Planning in both internal and partner meetings for supply and operational deliverables as listed below. 

Communicating and developing both strategic and tactical plans in collaboration with our partners to ensure continuity of supply in line with demand projections, up to and including assessment of partners’ processes/plans regarding supply resiliency and redundancy.

Identifying and managing risks related to the product quality, supply security, financial health, and responsiveness to macro environment changes.

Ensuring all manufacturing partners outside (3rd party) are delivering products as per agreed upon cost, quality, and on time delivery commitments via routine monitoring / metrics.

Tracking of all suppliers in scope, early identification of challenges, and escalation if needed.

Main partner in routine Supplier Performance reviews and continuous improvement with Strategic Procurement.

Assessing the OEM/ODM partners capacity and capabilities to scale vs the 5-year growth including but not limited to infrastructure, staffing and capital plans.

Utilizing their experience in cross-site collaboration to lead and coordinate teams in multiple countries with different cultures, languages, and manufacturing environments.

Improving the customer experience through rapid and comprehensive issue resolution and correction relative to supply and product quality issues.

Annual productivity planning and supply planning, and realization of agreed productivity targets aligned with the Integrated Business Planning team and Strategic Procurement

Optimizing production placement to reduce global logistics costs where applicable.

Ensuring cross-functional collaboration and cooperation.

Effective communication to key stakeholders.

Escalating issues in a timely manner to assure expedited resolution.

Assuring compliance to standards, laws, and regulations.

Required skills to have for the success of this role:

Bachelor’s degree in related field. Advanced degree preferred

Demonstrates advanced knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of SCM operations

10+ years’ experience managing complex cross-site, cross-functional, international programs

Experience managing external development and/or manufacturing efforts, including partner selection and contract development

Advanced experience in digitalizing processes and driving data-based decision making

Strong leadership, listening, verbal and written communication skills

Clear thinker with strong negotiation, influence management, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Must be able to work independently, be self-motivating and act as a change agent

Willing to travel 20-30% or as needed to support a remote working environment, including internationally

Desired skills to have for the success of this role

Strong and practical understanding of medical device development and manufacturing preferred

Technical product transfer / new product introduction processes

Program risk assessment

Experience working in a regulated / FDA environment & understanding of GMP and applying GMP practices and standards in a manufacturing environment.  Knowledge and understanding of a Quality Management System and Regulatory processes including 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601-1, IEC 62366, and IEC 62304 standards is beneficial

The annual base pay for this position is:

Min $184,500 - Max $276,700

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.
