Job Description

The Team: You will be part of a world class Product Services & Engineering team architecting various solutions for business requirements within different product offerings of S&P Commodity Insights, used by tens of thousands of users globally. The team is responsible for ensuring cloud database systems that deliver Greater Reliability & Resilience, High Performance, High Availability and Scalability. 

The Impact: You will utilize your technical knowledge and analytical skills in architecting and optimizing PostgreSQL, standardizing Aurora Postgres technology stack for relational database and applying best security policies for PostgreSQL/Aurora Postgres databases and suggesting best suitable replication practices as per business requirement.

The DBA team will be responsible for supporting a large-scale deployment of Aurora Postgres/PostgreSQL database systems related workloads and IT project deployment.

Responsibilities:

Sound knowledge on PostgreSQL, Aurora Postgres and working experience on other RDBMS like Oracle, MySQL, MS-SQL ServerGood knowledge on AWS RDSProvision of PostgreSQL RDS and monitoring and optimization of the same in AWSMajor, Minor version upgrade of PostgreSQLMigration of PostgreSQL in on-prem to AWS RDSExperience large PostgreSQL databases and performance tuningGood knowledge on interal parameters and how to fine tune themLogical/physical replication of PostgreSQL and suggesting best approach depending in business needs.Expert communicator with both technical peers and executives in the US and India.Perform Incident and Problem management duties.Good knowledge on maintaining databases in AWS RDS, aurora postgresPreparing DR strategies and implementing DR practice tests for mission critical databases to build DR availability confidence.Performing database refreshes between various DB environments.Capacity management which includes planning and recommend the application owners to archive the historical data, data file movement to improve the storage capacity.Performance and Tuning, Query optimization.Good knowledge in shell scripting, able to write shell scripts related to PostgreSQLSuggest best practices to application team for securing PostgreSQL ,Aurora postgres databases.Knowledge on Aurora postgres regional, global clusters.Knowledge on implementing changes and change management process.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering is required, or in lieu, a demonstrated equivalence in work experiencePostgres & AWS Certifications preferredVery good experience in AWS CloudExperience in other RDBMS like Oracle,MySQL, MS-SQL server has added advantageExperience in developing shell scripts, suggesting best security practices for databaseExcellent communication skills are essential, with strong verbal and writing proficiencies
 

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should have a minimum of 9+ years industry experience in PostgreSQL admin.Administer PostgreSQL in Linux, knowledge on AWS RDS and Aurora PostgresDeploy OS patches & perform upgrades of PostgreSQLMajor, Minor version upgrades of PostgreSQLApplying best security practices to PostgreSQL databases running on LinuxDevelop Unix scripts related PostgreSQL databaseDevelop scripts for automation of database infrastructure provisioning in AWS.Monitor PostgreSQL databases and Evaluate new AWS services and solutions related to RDS.Experience working with customers to diagnose a problem, and work toward resolutionExcellent verbal and written communication skillsUnderstanding of various PostgreSQL logical/physical replication and suggesting best solution according to business needs.
