Reporting to the New Business & Fund Activity Team Manager, this role sits within the TA (Transfer Agency) Change Group within the UK Transfer Agency department. 

This role is a full time permanent role Monday to Friday each week.  

The role is incredibly varied and fast-paced.  

Northern Trust support a healthy work-life balance, however it’s important to note that this work can often take place outside of core hours and weekend work is required.  Where weekends are worked, TOIL (time off in lieu) will be earned. 

The UK TA department provides third party fund administration services to numerous fund management companies covering the full range of shareholder servicing functions. 

The UK TA New Business & Fund Activity Team is currently a team of four full time partners and two part time partners.  We also use  contractor support as and when required for activity. The prime responsibility of the team is leading activity relating to funds (launches, closures, mergers, etc.), onboarding new clients and offboarding clients/funds.  The role requires dealing with multiple operational teams, our clients and other departments to ensure all requirements are captured and teams are fully aware of these.  Ensuring the capture of all line items for requirements to be successfully implemented and active oversight of any system development, processes, set up and changes.. 

The Senior Consultant role will be expected to pick up a range of changes and be an active lead and subject matter expert.  

The team deal with complex change and even our most experienced partners are constantly learning.  

Be a subject matter expert across UK TA to support business queries, system set-up, key initiatives, UAT and regression testing, required project work and operational readiness.

The role will also include understanding the relationship and liaising with Fund Accounting, IT, Custody, Depositary and IOO departments within Northern Trust and will be part of a team who are the first to engage with our new clients.   

Principal Responsibilities:

To be a technical and subject matter expert to support and complete client requirements. This will require knowledge of TA processes and teams. Ability to build a strong network across all levels, teams and departments.  The work is fast-paced and having an effective network will allow change to be implemented successfully. To be a technical and subject matter expert on new business in TA and work closely with the Operational Readiness (Business Process Management Team) group to coordinate activity. Oversee the completion and maintenance of client specific account set-up on all TA systems, including Icon Retail, PS Financials, Data Governance Tool, FAILS, EMX, EXP-AG, etc. Ensure all current and new procedures, checklists and matrices are maintained and ensure changes are shared with the wider team for awareness. Share ideas for improvements across processes and procedures to automate and develop where possible, always looking for opportunity to streamline and make more efficient. Writes proposals and business requirements for system changes/enhancements. Implements new efficiencies to improve accuracy and timeliness and reduce costs and risk. Regression testing for large and small change projects/changes and document changes. New Client / Fund activity / transition Unit Testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Client Joint UAT (JUAT) Interaction with external system providers, mainly  LineData Services, EMX, Calastone, and others as and where required. Documents high level process flows for process improvements and systems changes to assist business areas with procedure development. Handholds staff on new process changes and new business / fund activity. Conducts post implementation reviews to ensure desired goals are achieved. Minimise errors in all deliverables at all stages. Demonstrate learning and experience of challenging changes.

Ability to manage and prioritise a wide range of changes and complex projects. Approachable and able to gain respect especially under extreme conditions.  Disciplined, determined and confident. Enthusiastic, good communicator, able to coach and mentor in a candid and respectful manner. Resilient and able to think and act creatively. Results-oriented, driven and able to both effectively engage your team to solution problems, whilst being able to act independently and escalate effectively. Ability to think and act quickly and creatively. Identifies solutions as well as issues. Takes initiative to propose improvements to areas outside of immediate responsibilities  Strong client focus gained in a financial services company. Process/Business analysis and improvement experience. Experience of coaching and development. Strong communication, first class presentation and internal and external client-servicing skill - both oral and written. Excellent Project Management skills - work in an efficient manner and able to set and work to obtainable deadlines in a challenging environment. Good analytical and strong time management skills. Ability to manage multiple changing priorities and maintain a calm exterior. Able to document lessons learned and ensure appropriate steps are put in place to prevent any recurrence of problem items. Experience of project planning, delivery and project management documentation.   Able to effectively negotiate across different groups (internal and external). Active engagement of multiple teams in multiple locations with strong oversight and attention to detail. Demonstrate an excellent client service experience and ensure that all clients receive a quality service. Ensure accuracy and timings are consistently achieved within the team and when not achieved actively pursue a solution. Ensure ‘the team’ (to include, internal, external and offshore groups) adhere to required deadlines and project expectations. Collaborate and consult with managers and project/assignment stakeholders with ease. Prepare and recommend solutions to project/assignment issues and risk factors. Provide regular updates to the stakeholders on project status. Demonstrated ability to negotiate and deliver our standard business model where possible, ensuring we do the right thing by our clients and NT.
