**The Opportunity**
The Sr. Commodity Manager is responsible for developing, executing, and sustaining both the strategic and tactical supplier management activities required to support Abbott’s Heart Failure business. This role manages key suppliers, negotiates contracts (Master Service Agreements, Supply Agreements, Pricing Agreements), drives short‑term recovery actions, and builds long‑term sourcing strategies aligned with division and corporate priorities.
The role requires a highly proactive self‑starter who thrives in a dynamic environment and can balance immediate operational challenges with long‑range planning. The Sr. Commodity Manager will partner extensively across Quality, Operations, R&D/Engineering, Finance, Planning, Legal, Corporate Procurement, and other Abbott divisions to ensure supply continuity, cost competitiveness, and supplier performance.
**What You’ll Work On** **:**
Supplier Relationship Management:
+ Serve as primary commercial interface for assigned suppliers.
+ Lead Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and supplier performance governance.
+ Drive supplier development, including capability expansion, cost improvements, and risk mitigation.
+ Address escalations, capacity constraints, and continuity‑of‑supply concerns.
Contracting, Negotiation & Commercial Management:
+ Lead the creation, review, negotiation, and execution of:
+ Master Service Agreements (MSAs)
+ Supply Agreements
+ Pricing Agreements & Amendments
+ Inventory or Consignment Agreements
+ Ensure contracts align with Abbott’s commercial, legal, and risk standards.
+ Drive long‑term pricing strategy, cost‑transparency models, and cost‑reduction roadmaps.
Operational Execution & Issue Resolution:
+ Manage immediate supply chain concerns, including shortages, quality holds, yield issues, material constraints, and urgent resourcing needs.
+ Partner closely with Planning, Quality, and Operations to resolve issues quickly and minimize impact to manufacturing and customers.
Long‑Term Strategy & Corporate Initiatives:
+ Develop and maintain multi‑year category and commodity strategies built around:
+ Cost, capacity, quality, resiliency, dual‑sourcing, and sustainability
+ Support and execute Corporate initiatives including:
+ Supply Chain Resiliency
+ Supplier Sustainability & Diversity
+ Risk Indexing & Geo‑risk Evaluations
+ Cost‑Out Programs (CIP, VA/VE)
Cross‑Functional & Cross‑Divisional Collaboration:
+ Interface daily with internal stakeholders across HF and Corporate Abbott—Quality, Ops, Engineering, Supplier QA, Finance, Legal, Manufacturing, NPI, Corporate Procurement, and other business units.
+ Provide sourcing input for NPI projects, change controls (SCNs), and engineering cost‑reduction activities.
Data‑Driven Decision Making & Governance:
+ Use data, analytics, and market intelligence to guide decisions on risk, cost, and supplier strategy.
+ Maintain accurate supplier documentation, risk profiles, contract metadata, and commercial files.
+ Ensure alignment with Abbott policies, Purchasing Policy CPP‑50, QSR/ISO requirements, and financial controls.
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or related field.
+ 13+ years of experience in Supply Chain, Procurement, Commodity Management, Supplier Management, Engineering, or Operations.
+ Demonstrated success owning supplier relationships and negotiating complex commercial agreements (MSA, Supply Agreements, pricing).
+ Experience resolving supply risks, quality issues, or large‑scale operational challenges.
+ Strong financial acumen: cost modeling, PPV/CIP, multi‑year cost strategy.
+ Ability to operate with minimal direction; proactive, resourceful, and strong ownership mindset.
+ Skilled in influencing cross‑functional teams and working at multiple organizational levels.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Background in Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Aerospace, or other regulated industries.
+ Working knowledge of FDA QSR, ISO 13485, GMP, and regulated supply chains.
+ Experience supporting NPI, supplier qualifications, dual‑source programs, and manufacturing transfers.
+ Proficiency with SAP, Power BI, advanced Excel modeling, and supplier analytics.
+ Strong communication, negotiation, and executive‑level presentation skills.

The base pay for this position is $100,000.00 – $200,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
