Amazon.com
Amazon Lab126 is seeking an innovative Camera Architect to design complete camera solutions that define imaging excellence for our next-generation consumer electronics devices. You will work at the intersection of hardware, algorithms, and user experience to deliver best-in-class imaging solutions that delight our customers.
As a Camera Architect, you'll own end-to-end camera system design from sensor selection, optics, illumination, and ISP integration. This is the design of complex camera systems where optics, electronics, reliability, thermal management, and image processing converge. You'll balance conflicting requirements from industrial design, cost, performance, and manufacturability while collaborating with cross-functional teams including hardware engineering, computer vision, machine learning, and product management.
You are at the center of Amazon's imaging excellence, surrounded by experts in optics, sensors, ISP, and algorithms, who can rapidly prototype and validate ideas. The role offers genuine technical leadership where you'll own complex architectural initiatives, decompose system-level problems for parallel execution, set engineering standards, and mentor others while staying hands-on with the most challenging technical problems.
Key job responsibilities
• Own end-to-end camera system architecture including sensor selection, lens architecture, and IR/visible illumination.
• Define camera system specifications balancing image quality, cost, power, and manufacturability across diverse lighting conditions
• Perform detailed optical system design, simulation, and analysis to evaluate design alternatives
• Drive component selection through simulations, rigorous testing, vendor evaluation, and data-driven decision making
• Partner with image quality team on ISP tuning, camera control algorithms, and signal optimization. Work with hardware engineers on module integration, thermal management, and manufacturing
• Drive camera system validation including optical bench testing, image quality assessment, and failure analysis
• Communicate technical recommendations and influence product decisions at the leadership level
