Sr. Business Manager, Education Programs Strategy and Field
Amazon.com
Education Programs (EP) are a long-term investment that addresses the widening gap of cloud-skilled individuals in the workforce. A digitally skilled global workforce is key to driving and scaling revenue growth for customers and partners, and for AWS. Housed within AWS Training and Certification (T&C), EP provides free AWS Cloud training, empowers new-to-cloud learners to gain technical expertise, and helps them find the next step to continue their cloud learning journey with AWS. Currently, EP includes five programs, with different products, that serve different, but occasionally overlapping audiences. While the programs share certain resources, such as Consulting & Outside Services budget as well as management and tech support from centralized teams, they developed, grew, and operated in separate, standalone program teams. However, as EP and the rest of the T&C business mature, it is necessary to re-examine how we serve our customers to continue operating and innovating as a Day 1 organization.
We are seeking a driven, talented, and experienced Senior Program Manager to be the strategic and operational cornerstone of the Education Programs team. The Senior PM candidate will possess both an optimization background that enables them to manage quantitative planning, and a demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically, enabling them to lead innovative initiatives such as new programs and project rollouts on a global basis.
The successful candidate will experience a wide range of problem-solving situations, requiring extensive use of data collection and analysis, as well as working with stakeholders worldwide to operationalize education programs, optimize productivity, and drive investment decisions.
The ideal candidate must be able to think big while staying connected to the details, possess excellent analytical and project management skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate a strong track record of delivering projects in a complex and ambiguous environment. Excellent written communication skills are a must.
Key job responsibilities
- Spearhead strategic cross-program initiatives
- Create optimized investment plans and tracking tools for the EP organization by clearly communicating dependencies and manage/track exceptions
- Coordinate with T&C Operations, Global Expansion, and Finance teams to analyze historical data, forecast demand, reporting, etc.
- Manage the analyses of monthly reporting of EP initiatives along with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), while managing and optimizing productivity and streamlining processes.
- Partner with AWS business teams to understand use cases, gather requirements for resources planning and productivity mechanisms that satisfy each program’s needs across EP and scale their needs with the business’ growth in volume, complexity, and global geographic dispersion.
- Collaborate with program management peers, product/tech teams, and cross-functional customers to onboard organizations to a Headcount Management Tool.
- Fully leverage existing and new technology and decision support tools, including global standardization of reporting for stakeholders by leading global process standardization initiatives.
- Own and manage EP’s budget.
- Develop reporting to support the third-party operational and budget activities across the organization. Work with cross-functional teams (e.g., Finance, Tax) and technology teams to drive process improvements in payments, budget, and third-party operations
- Stewardship over organizational budget while deep diving budget variances and analyze current budgets against historical budget data to identify anomalies.
- Work with vendors to regularly review financial reporting, reconcile payments, and address/anticipate issues and monthly reforecasting
- Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of budget data while providing reporting on the overall financial health of all business units.
A day in the life
- Implementing mechanisms and processes that 1/ support data-driven, cross-program planning in key areas where more holistic and strategic prioritization is needed (e.g. global expansion), and 2/ ensure teams work and align with the broader stakeholder community within T&C and AWS;
- Building, maintaining, and continuously improving processes, frameworks, and other tools used to drive strategic decision making across programs.
- Providing high-level, strategic guidance to teams on budget management and planning.
- Monitoring monthly/quarterly spend, identifying areas of underspend/overspend, and facilitating re-allocation of funds to ensure optimal use of resources across teams.
- Liaising with internal (e.g. program and operations leaders) and external (e.g. T&C Strategy & Operations, T&C Localization, Finance, etc.) stakeholders address all budget-related requests and issues in a timely manner.
- Collaborating with the EP-BI team to build, improve, and maintain budget management tools that make monitoring, analysis, and reporting easier.
- Creating quarterly and mid-year budget reports and presenting them to EP leadership and other relevant stakeholders; and
- Driving and implementing data-based solutions to continuously improve budget management, forecasting, and planning.
