Role Summary
The Sr. Alternatives Sales Specialist will play a key role in driving growth for Northern Trust’s alternative investment platform, 50 South Capital, across their private equity, venture capital, private credit, hedge funds, and other strategies. You will work closely with Northern Trust internal partners, including Relationship Managers and sales professionals covering institutions, family offices and high net worth asset owners and advisors, to design go-to-market strategies, establish goals and execute fundraising objectives across various alternative strategies.
This is a highly collaborative, client-facing business development role with a strong internal focus. You will partner with internal stakeholders to educate and engage them on 50 South’s alternative investment capabilities, helping them build confidence in presenting these solutions to their clients and prospects. The includes delivering internal training sessions, developing outreach techniques, and creating education programs that strengthen the sales team’s ability to position and sell alternatives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Partner with Northern Trust Relationship Managers and sales professionals to engage their clients and prospects in conversations about alternative investments.
Lead and participate in internal education and training programs to enhance the sales team’s knowledge and comfort with alternatives.
Support Relationship Managers in preparing for and executing client meetings, including providing relevant product expertise and tailored messaging.
Serve as an alternative investments subject matter expert, delivering insight and investment solutions to clients and prospects to help them meet their investing needs.
Set and execute an acquisition, expansion, and monetization strategy for strategic alternative investment relationships across multiple client segments and consultants.
Help manage sales pipeline activity and close sales.
Partner across Northern Trust with other business teams to address client, prospect, and consultant needs, including conceptualizing and helping lead structuring of new products and bespoke solutions.
Enhance consistency of and impact from Northern Trust’s recurring interactions with its clients and provide ongoing LP support.
Understand the investor demand and competitive landscape, and communicate trends and insights to internal stakeholders.
Contribute to the development of marketing materials, presentations and outreach tools for internal and external use.
Ensure Northern Trust’s brand, platform and capabilities are well-represented in the investor community.
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
Proven fundraising track record and ability to expand existing relationships and acquire new strategic relationships;
Deep subject matter expertise across alternative investment strategies and investment solutions;
Both strategic and execution-oriented mindset; ability to both lead and do;
Demonstrated interpersonal skills: personable, easy to work with, and engaging to clients and prospects;
Robust communication and presentation skills; ability to translate complex and/or technical concepts in an understandable manner to a range of audiences;
Exceptional collaborator and team-minded professional; driven by integrity and excellence;
Excellent project and process management skills;
Proven ability to effectively lead and/or navigate through complexity and drive innovation.
Necessary Experience and Education
10+ years business development experience at an alternatives firm;
Technical understanding of Private Equity, Venture Capital, Credit and Hedge Fund strategies and structures;
Well-networked in the industry; and
A bachelor’s degree with an MBA, CFA, or CAIA highly desired.
Salary Range:
$164,600 - 288,000 USDSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
