The general role of the Sr. Aerial Construction Technician – Fiber Optics is stringing and maintaining fiber optic cable which includes pulling, tensioning, stranding, and spacing lines. This individual will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair overhead fiber lines. This position requires proficiency with new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make readies, and equipment mounting. This position provides leadership in the field and is able to perform and direct more complex assignments. The work performed will be within communications and power spaces.


This individual understands each product and manages the improvement of operational efficiency. They must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces for this position.


The Sr. Aerial Construction Technician reports to the Project Manager - Fiber Optics and will work primarily out of their assigned location.

What You'll Do Safely perform work in communication and energized spacesInspect, mobilize, and operate a bucket truck from the cabRecord and report the sequential foot marks by the operator or groundmanPull cable, strand, fiber, and lash, for extended periods of timeMonitor cable during installs for appropriate tension during critical turning points and transitionsRead, interpret, and modify design packagesComplete documentation to include record-keeping, billing, inventory, etc.Ensure work is performed and projects are completed to engineering and design specificationsProvide training for climbers in tasks including body placement and equipment inspectionsLead, mentor, and train field personnel What You'll Bring 5+ years of relevant Fiber Optics experience preferredValid Driver’s License is requiredCDL A/B preferredProficient with the following equipment: ladders, bucket truck, man lift, cable puller, and reel standsSmall equipment experience (i.e., forklift, bobcat, telehandler, skid steer, etc.)Flagger Certification requiredTraffic Control Manager Certification preferredMust be comfortable working at elevated heights and confined spacesAbility to climb poles up to 40’ using standard safety protocolsQualify as an Electrically Qualified Communication LinemanQualify in rigging (ex. Pole Framing)Ability to work under minimal supervisionAbility to inspect, operate, and mobilize a bucket truckAbility to apply technical expertise, evaluate problems and implement best practicesPossess strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain professionalismAble to read, interpret, and modify drawings to determine work placement and specificationsProficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Visio

 

Working Conditions

Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneelClimb poles; carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 65 pounds, as well as work with confidence on ladders and utility poles at heights of up to 60 feet in the air to perform tasks in communications spacesWork indoors, outdoors, and underground in various weather conditionsAble to walk long distancesAble to lift up to 65 pounds without assistance
