Sr. Accountant
Description We are looking for a dedicated Senior Accountant to join a reputable insurance organization in Urbandale, Iowa. The ideal candidate will play a key role in financial reporting, analysis, and compliance, while contributing to the overall success of the accounting team. This position offers a clear path for growth and skill development within the company. Responsibilities: • Prepare and review financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring adherence to statutory accounting principles. • Assist in the development and submission of quarterly and annual financial statements and regulatory filings, including management discussion and analysis reports. • Perform general ledger reconciliations and create journal entries for premium, loss, reinsurance transactions, and investment activities. • Generate financial analyses and variance reports for management and regulatory authorities. • Support the budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow projection processes to maintain financial stability. • Ensure compliance with established internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures. • Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory examiners to facilitate smooth audits and examinations. • Contribute to the improvement and implementation of accounting systems and operational processes. • Stay updated on changes to accounting standards and insurance regulations, assessing their impact on financial reporting. • Collaborate with departments such as underwriting, claims, and actuarial teams to validate financial data and results. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, with preference for CPA certification. • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably within the insurance industry. • Proficiency in month-end close processes, general ledger management, and journal entries. • Strong skills in account reconciliation and bank reconciliation. • Experience in financial analysis, including variance reporting and forecasting. • Familiarity with budgeting and cash flow projections. • Knowledge of statutory accounting principles and regulatory compliance. • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external auditors.
