Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Durham, North Carolina. In this role, you will take ownership of critical accounting functions, including month-end close processes, compliance reporting, and maintaining the accuracy of financial data. If you excel in multi-entity environments and have a strong understanding of accounting principles, this position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to organizational success.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage the monthly close process for multiple entities, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit card transactions, and intercompany balances to maintain financial integrity.
• Track and oversee fixed assets, including depreciation schedules and inventory adjustments.
• Prepare and file monthly sales and use tax returns, along with NC Highway Use Tax filings.
• Ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations, registrations, and reporting requirements.
• Develop and refine internal controls and accounting standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Collaborate on financial audits, ensuring accurate documentation and timely reporting.
• Monitor compliance with Department of Transportation reporting requirements, including audits and necessary documentation.
• Recommend and implement process improvements to optimize accounting workflows and accuracy.
• Utilize accounting software tools to streamline processes and enhance reporting efficiency. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• At least 5 years of accounting experience, ideally in construction, manufacturing, or multi-entity settings.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop, with Enterprise experience preferred, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Solid understanding of internal controls and compliance reporting, including sales tax and highway tax.
• Familiarity with job costing and department/class-based reporting is advantageous.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with a focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Experience with accounting tools such as Bill.com is a plus.
