Job Title: Senior Operations Accountant
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Operations Accountant to join our accounting and finance team at our dynamic industrial construction company. This critical position is responsible for overseeing financial operations, performing project-specific accounting tasks, and ensuring compliance with industry-specific accounting standards and reporting requirements. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in percent-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition and extensive project accounting experience within the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) industry.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Project Accounting: Manage all accounting for active construction projects, including tracking budgets, costs, billings, and revenues, ensuring alignment with contractual agreements and financial goals.
+ Percent-of-Completion Revenue Recognition: Apply advanced accounting knowledge to calculate and record POC-based revenue recognition in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
+ Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze accurate and timely monthly and quarterly financial statements, including job cost reports, profit forecasts, and variance analysis for ongoing projects.
+ Internal Controls: Develop and enforce policies and processes designed to strengthen financial controls and ensure adherence to industry regulations.
+ Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with project management, procurement teams, and executive leadership to ensure consistent communication of financial information and support strategic decision-making.
+ Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and monitor detailed budgets for projects and provide recommendations on cost controls and profit optimization.
+ Compliance and Audit: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal and external audit requirements.
+ ERP Systems: Utilize advanced ERP software to manage operations and integrate financial data across departments.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
+ Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the EPC or industrial construction industry.
+ Proven experience with project accounting in an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) environment.
+ Advanced knowledge of percent-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition accounting.
+ Strong understanding of GAAP standards and their application to project-centric businesses.
+ Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced spreadsheet tools such as Microsoft Excel.
+ Exceptional analytical skills with a keen eye for detail while managing deadlines and competing priorities.
+ Effective communicator with proven ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders.
+ CPA designation (preferred but not required).
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience working in a large industrial, manufacturing, or construction firm.
+ Working knowledge of job costing systems and project management tools.
+ Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior staff and collaborate across teams.
