If you’re a Senior Tax Specialist, we have an exciting opportunity for you. This position reports to a leader within the tax team. Primary responsibilities involve preparing and reviewing federal/state/local income tax returns, information forms and other schedules and work papers involved with Woodward's tax filing and tax provision processes and procedures. Individuals in this level possess and apply tax knowledge to the completion of complex assignments with a significant amount of self-management. This position follows organization policy and recommends continuous improvement changes. Reviews progress with management.
What You Will Be Doing
Excellent utilization of software packages, including Excel, to accurately collect data and organize information required to make calculations and complete work papersSupports identification of tax opportunities, development of alternatives, and implementation of solutions under the direction of a leader within the tax teamIdentifies and proposes ideas to make work in area of responsibility more efficient. Streamlines processes and work paper documentation and implements approved ideas for efficiency improvementsPrepares and reviews tax forecasts for planning purposes and use by corporate accountingParticipate in cross-departmental functions and projects as necessarySubject matter expert in tax software and MS Excel to accurately perform required calculations and effectively document these calculations in reviewable work papers. Is the go-to person for junior tax membersCompiles and reviews required data and accurately performs required calculations and documenting the process in work papers. May review the work of more junior tax membersAccurately prepares and reviews corporate income tax returns of a generally more complex nature with limited changes upon further reviewAccurately prepares or performs review of estimated taxesAccurately prepares or performs review of quarterly and annual provision components and assists with consolidationExperience with ONESource a plusResearch ongoing tax issues of some complexitySupports tax-related audits with or without outside firm assistanceApplies general knowledge of the company business activities and personnel as they relate to tax issuesAssists personnel in understanding basic tax issues, based on a general understanding of tax lawWhat We Are Looking For
US – Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Accounting, or other four-year degree with similar experience requiredCPA or JD preferred2-5 years corporate tax or public accounting requiredWorking understanding of US GAAP requiredIn-depth proficiency in tax compliance, research and provision software. Basic computer experience and skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, ERP System, General Ledger, etc.In-depth understanding of various tax systems and their application to company's business situationsStrong written and verbal communication skills. Able to prepare and make presentations to all levels and lead groups or individuals to appropriate conclusionsBuilds and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholdersApplies sound logic to problem solving. Able to identify resolution of problems either independently or in consultation with other tax leadersStrong organizational skills, including the ability to follow common naming conventions and filing systems. Regularly identify opportunities for improvement in quality/efficiency.
