Summarized Purpose:

We are presenting an outstanding opportunity to join Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Sr Systems Developer. In this role, you will play a crucial part in performing the systems analysis, building, development, testing, and support of highly complex technical information system components.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and relevant formal academic/vocational qualificationPrevious roles showcasing the proficiencies necessary to fulfill the job responsibilities (similar to 5+ years’) or an equivalent blend of education, training, & experience

Major Job Responsibilities:

Develop cost and resource estimates for systems development projectsProvide recommendations and compose robust database architectures for enterprise applicationsDevelop and code system components according to specificationsLead database development efforts including schema construction, stored procedures, and performance tuningPrepare and approve system documentation including requirements, specifications, test plans, and user manualsPerform unit, system, and validation testingCoordinate with Operations staff for application deploymentCollaborate with cross-functional IT teams for product support and deploymentWork with business partners to analyze and address support requestsGuarantee all development tasks adhere to quality and compliance requirementsImplement and maintain backup, recovery, and security protocolsTroubleshoot complex database and application issues to ensure high availabilityMentor junior developers and guide guidelines in systems and database developmentStay current with new technologies and recommend improvements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Client-focused approach with strong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to multitask and prioritize with attention to detailStrong logic, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capabilitiesProficiency in web development and scripting languages like Python and ShellCapable in SQL and relational database schemaExpertise in relational database platforms: Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQLFamiliarity with server environments (Windows, Linux/Unix), Apache, IISFamiliarity with data governance, security, and compliance standardsExperience with validated systems and clinical industry (preferred)Project management and leadership experience

Must Have Skills:

Proficient in SQL and relational database advancementExperience with Oracle and SQL ServerStrong problem-solving and analytical skillsExcellent documentation and communication abilitiesPerformance tuning and query optimizationLeadership and mentoring capabilities

Good to Have Skills:

Experience with MySQL and PostgreSQLScripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, Shell)Familiarity with Apache, IIS, and server environmentsValidated system experienceClinical industry knowledgeProject management experienceAwareness of emerging database technologies
