Hearst Commerce Tech is a newly formed organization focused on developing and supporting E-Commerce on Hearst Magazine Brands including Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Runner’s World, Good Housekeeping and many more. Your Impact

The Hearst Commerce Tech team is looking for an experienced Principal Product Lead to lead our product management efforts for our e-commerce efforts across Hearst Magazines, Television and Newspapers.

As the Sr. Principal PM, you will be responsible for all relevant features and customer experiences in your space. With that, you will partner and collaborate with UX design, engineering, and our business partners to ideate and bring to life new experiences for our customers and selling partners. You will build and own the associated product strategy that is based on data, customer insights, and market research. The role requires a unique blend of business and technical savvy – a big picture vision as well as the drive and attention to detail that transforms vision into a reality.

The ideal candidate is a highly technical, customer-obsessed and curious owner with a results-oriented mindset, developing roadmaps optimized for business impact and learning and iterating on solutions rapidly through experimentation. You deliver products with both customer-facing and internal-user facing components and build with an understanding the data requirements, to measure and monitor performance, operational and internal user-impacts, and technology trade-offs.  You can quickly hone in on the most critical requirements to maximize speed to market and delivering meaningful results for the business. 

This candidate will have deep expertise in retail catalogs, commerce recommendations strategies and backend, and building a variety of solutions to help users discover and evaluate products relevant to their shopping journey.  Our team will be focused on core experiences that support a wide spectrum of customer types – as such, you should be someone excited about exploring the varying engagement and shopping behaviors across regions, industries, and customer segments. You should have excellent communication skills that span from visual documentation to verbal presentation of complex ideas in easy-to-understand ways. With our many partners across multiple Hearst Magazines, you should also have comfort in collaborating and presenting concepts from junior to executive stakeholders. You will also have a track record of collaborating effectively with developers to define and build new technology and new experiences for customers

Your Responsibilities

Define the vision and roadmap for merchant integrations, retail and product data ingestion, catalog and taxonomy architecture, offer management and optimization for editors, and product data enrichment solutions.  Identify and execute both internal and external technical solutions to deliver improved product offer data to customers, increased user interactions with product offers, and increase the relevance of offers surfaced to users through personalization and recommendation strategies. Interface and earn trust with our most critical merchant and brand partners to gain understanding of their technology, business goals, and item catalogs.  Build mechanisms to collect feedback from editors and other internal stakeholders, audit roadmaps, measure success, and deliver features at the highest quality bar. Drive aggressive execution, staying ahead of dependencies, making smart tradeoffs, coordinating dependencies, and maintaining communication throughout the organization to guarantee a smooth and efficient product delivery.

About You

10+ years in a product management role in an online consumer-focused or ecommerce company, with a product emphasis on consumer-facing experiences. Experience leading product teams, hiring and coaching best product development practices Familiarity with responsive, mobile-first, web application development and deployment. Role model communication (written and spoken), presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations, and drive business outputs. Ability to collaborate and operate cross-functionally, establish credibility with stakeholders, and work with key internal and external partners to get things done. Proven ability to lead multiple work streams simultaneously Innovative problem solver, able to move quickly and think creatively in ambiguous environments Ability to set and drive “think big” strategy, while also rolling up your sleeves and providing detailed guidance on individual projects

Compensation Considerations

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York City or Seattle. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York City or Seattle is $240,000-$280,000.  Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York City or Seattle.  If this role is open to candidates outside of these cities, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location.  A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
