Sr Legal Counsel (Dutch speaking)

ADP is seeking an experienced attorney to join the international legal team. This team focuses on general legal support and business-unit-specific compliance matters that affect ADP’s products and services.

 

The successful candidate will have a strong business orientation and will be responsible for collaborating across multiple ADP business units. You will step into a truly international legal role where your primary focus will be advising on high-impact, cross-border matters within ADP’s global payroll business. Alongside your international work, you’ll contribute specialist expertise in Dutch law, playing a crucial part in supporting our operations in the Netherlands, ensuring seamless integration of local and global legal strategies, and helping shape the direction of our business.

 

The Senior Legal Counsel interfaces with all levels of the business and corporate management and advises on day-to-day legal issues, providing legal guidance on clients’ claims and escalations, as well as product compliance matters, data privacy, AI initiatives, and relationships with subcontractors, partners and other key stakeholders. The Senior Legal Counsel is involved in the launch of new products and initiatives and acts as a strategic advisor with a focus on aligning legal strategies with the organization’s long-term goals. The position requires a proactive approach to managing legal risks and supporting strategic business objectives. The Senior Legal Counsel ensures in each instance that the projects, processes, and matters they work on are in the best interest of ADP and accurately reflect ADP's policies and business practices.

 

The job location is Barcelona and some travel may be required.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Job duties may change over time and additional job functions may become essential.

 

• Provide day-to-day legal support to ADP Global Payroll and ADP Netherlands.

• Advise and support the relevant Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on legal matters related to product initiatives and compliance. In particular, as a member of the ADP Netherlands Senior Leadership Team, you will help shape strategic decisions and drive impactful outcomes, ensuring alignment with ADP’s legal principles and business goals.

• Act as the primary legal contact for ADP Netherlands, handling Dutch legal and compliance matters, and collaborating with teams in the UK, Sweden and the broader Nordics region as projects require.

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of service agreements, amendments and contractual documents to safeguard ADP’s interests and facilitate business operations.

• Handle claims and disputes.

• Assist in managing relationships with subcontractors and key business partners, providing legal guidance and support as needed.

• Provide support to the compliance manager in handling compliance matters for Netherlands and work alongside the Privacy team to implement privacy initiatives

• Participate in new initiatives and special projects relevant to the Business Unit, offering legal expertise to facilitate successful outcomes.

• Review and advise on marketing materials, training documents, and other communications to ensure compliance with legal standards.

• Develop and review internal processes as necessary.

• Support and train internal stakeholders.

• Engage in M&A projects, providing legal insights and support to the Corporate M&A team during acquisitions or dispositions.

• Support the development and implementation of AI initiatives, ensuring adherence to relevant legal frameworks.

• Support the ADP Global Contracts Teams on complex customer contracts with existing and prospective multinational customers.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications Required:

 

• Education: Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school in the Netherlands. Admission to practice law in the in the Netherlands preferred.

• Experience: Minimum of 8 years in corporate law (law firm or in-house counsel), with solid experience with Dutch law; focus on contracts, product compliance, and data privacy; experience with international law is a plus.

• Language Skills: Fluency in Dutch with Proficiency in English (written and spoken) required; fluency in additional languages advantageous

• Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of outsourcing arrangements, technology contracts, business law, and data privacy laws in the Netherlands, EU and other major markets; experience with AI related legal issues is a plus.

• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt the speech to the audience.

• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills with attention to detail.

• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders in a matrix ecosystem. Ability to work in a team of highly skilled legal professionals, with a can-do mindset, fostering a collaborative, inclusive and high-performance culture.

• Project Management: Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
