Sr Counsel, Sr AVP-Commodities and Derivatives

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Counsel in the Markets Section of the Legal Department to support the commodities and derivatives trading businesses.

This position is responsible for providing legal services, advice and counsel to the commodities and derivatives trading businesses of Wells Fargo Bank and its affiliates.

In this role, you will:

Lead or participate in provision of regulatory, structuring, documentation and transactional support related to commodities and derivatives transactionsProvide legal advice and counsel to the commodities and derivatives businesses, including sales, trading, credit, compliance, and operations functionsReview and analyze moderately complex challenges for the commodities and derivatives businesses that require an in-depth evaluation of variable factorsManage highly complex matters of legal significance to the commodities and derivatives businesses business and develop and render opinions, consult with, and advise clients on legal and regulatory mattersProvide guidance to the commodities and derivatives businesses on legal matters to assist with legal risk assessment, planning and policy decisions, claims against the Company, probability of loss, and develop cost-effective risk mitigation strategiesDraft complex legal documents, review and negotiate documents prepared by outside counselIndependently resolve moderately complex legal issues and lead team to meet deliverablesIdentify and analyze complex legal issues, develop conclusions, and make recommendations for issue resolutionDevelop the overall legal coverage strategy and philosophy of support for the commodities and derivatives businessesEducate, train, and supervise less experienced attorneys within the Legal departmentCollaborate with peers, colleagues, and mid-level managers to resolve issues and achieve goalsLead projects, teams, or serve as a mentor for less experienced staffWork directly with business clients and develop an in-depth understanding of commodities and derivatives business activities and productsPartner with business leaders and management of other corporate departments to develop and implement risk management programs


Required Qualifications:

4+ years of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, educationActive State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States

Desired Qualifications:

3+ years of significant experience in representing clients with respect to commodities and derivatives transactions, including experience with physically settled crude oil and refined products, natural gas, metals and commodity linked financing structures.Significant knowledge and experience with U.S. laws, rules and regulations relevant to commodities and derivatives transactions, including product and banking laws (the Dodd-Frank Act, the Bank Holding Company Act, the Gramm Leach Bliley Financial Modernization Act, and Sections 23A and B of the Federal Reserve Act, Natural Gas Act, NGPA, etc.); bankruptcy laws (including netting laws); laws relating to secured transactions and creditors’ rights.Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracyExperience building partnerships and consulting effectively with leadershipAbility to execute in a fast paced, high demand environment while balancing multiple priorities

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$139,000.00 - $260,000.00
