Summary

Position Highlights:

The Supervisor Clinical Documentation Improvement is responsible for providing daily oversight of the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) team. The position works closely with the physician advisor, clinical providers, HIM coding team and all members of the healthcare team to ensure accurate and timely documentation of the patient's medical record.


It supervises the documentation process to evaluate and promote process improvement initiatives. Reviews trends and provides specific and relevant information to the education team for the creation of curriculum for clinical staff and CDI team education. Reports the effectiveness of the education program to the clinical documentation after performing audit reviews. Create and monitors internal controls to ensure compliance with all CMS Regulations and Moffitt's policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the review processes of complex patients of different ages and development in acute and chronic oncology disease processes. Demonstrate knowledge and job experience in management and supervision of personnel, including team building and conflict resolution. Responsible for the hiring, evaluating, coaching, counseling, educating and scheduling of the CDI staff. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including, but not limited to, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician advisors, and the department's managers of Revenue Cycle, Coding and Data Quality, Case Management and Health Information Management. Provide ongoing Clinical Documentation management program education for new staff, including new Clinical Documentation Registered Nurses, Physicians, nurses and allied health professionals. Manage day-to-day activities of the Clinical Documentation area in accordance with Moffitt and departmental policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience Required:

Bachelors Degree and minimum six (6) years of acute care clinical documentation experience, inclusive of a minimum of two (2) years in a team/project lead, supervisory, manager or above in a Health Information Management environment.

OR

Associate Degree plus two (2) additional years of experience as stated above for a total of eight (8) years

 

Minimum Skills/Specialized Training Required:

Strong clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/physiology of disease processes.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in negotiation of complex systems to effect change
Proficiency in computer usage, including databases and spreadsheet analysis, and EHR

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION Minimum Required:
Any "one" of the following certifications is required:

(CIC) Certified Prof Coder - Hosp (CCS) Certified Coding Specialist (CPC) Certified Professional Coder (RHIT) Reg Health Information Technician (RHIA) Reg Health Information Administrator (CCDS) Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist from ACDIS (CDIP) Certified Documentation Integrity Practitioner from AHIMA (CDEI) Certified Documentation Expert Inpatient from AAPC Registered Nurse (RN) *Any certification not listed above, but issued from one of the approved Governing Bodies listed below, may be considered by the business to satisfy this requirement : AAPC, AHIMA, ACDIS, Florida Board of Nursing
