KLAS, 8 News Now the CBS affiliate in Las Vegas, Nevada is actively recruiting for a Sports MMJ/Reporter. The Sports MMJ produces, shoots, writes and edits their own stories. In addition, this position also needs to be proficient in performing live shots and/or anchoring. We are looking for a creative individual to join our growing team, covering local sports in the fastest growing sports market in the country.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Produces and presents sports reports for all platformsEnsures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production qualityWrites and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise mannerAssists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating sports programming and other contentResponds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as requiredWorks closely with the sports team to develop comprehensive sports coverageParticipates in promotional activities including public appearancesPerforms special projects and other duties as assignedShoots video for sports reportsSets up, composes and executes video shotsMaintains video equipmentEdits video clips for television broadcasts and digital platformsWrites stories for the website and other digital platformsInteracts with viewers and users on social media sitesRequirements & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experienceComprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activitiesFluency in EnglishExcellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when requiredMinimum two years’ experience in sports reporting or anchoringSuperior on-air presenceExperience guiding, directing and motivating othersProficiency with video equipment and internal newscast production softwareAbility to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyAbility to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solutionValid driver’s license with a good driving recordFlexibility to work any shiftPhysical Demands & Work Environment:
The Sports MMJ/Reporter must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Sports MMJ/Reporter must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
