Job Summary

Provides direct patient care services to individuals exhibiting communication and or swallowing disorders,

Coordinates services with other health professionals,

Essential Job Functions

Delivers effective therapeutic services that are relevant to population served and remains knowledgeable of current techniques,

Completes Basic Competencies of the population currently serving as indicated on the Competency criteria for Speech and Hearing Department, and hospital competencies,

Meets productivity demands by seeking out opportunities within the entire department when cancellations, no shows and low census occur,

Effeciently shares information regarding therapy or evaluation techniques and or hospital procedures with students, volunteers, CFYs and peers,

Participates in projects for the department that are consistent with department and hospital goals and missions,

Communicates job specific concerns and participates in developing solutions,

Completes written work in a timely manner relevant to evaluation, therapy and patient coordination and the content of written material meets ASHA specifics,

Other duties as assigned

Formal Education and Job Related Experience

Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology,

Evidence of continuing education is necessary to meet licensing requirements,

Student clinical experience in pediatrics,

Rehabilitation experience desirable,

Thorough knowledge of the theoretical principles and clinical application employed in the diagnosis and management of various communication and swallowing disorders,

Knowledge of normal development is desirable,

Tact, initiative and judgment in the performance of duties,

Member of ASHA required

Bilingual Spanish preferred

Feeding experience preferred

Certification

Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech Language Hearing Association or eligible

American Heart Association BLS Provider Certification required

NJ State Speech Language Pathology License

Education and Experience Additional Comments

Bilingual SLPs must be able to independently provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for speech, language, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders using the client or patient language and preferred mode of communication,

Describe the process of normal speech and language acquisition for both bilingual and monolingual speakers of that language, including how those processes are manifested in oral and written language, or manually coded languages when applicable,

Apply intervention strategies for treatment of communication disorders in the language or mode of communication most appropriate for the needs of the individual,

This is for after school and evening hours starting at 3pm and after

Direct contact with patients, families, nursing, therapists, and other health professionals,

Therapy office, therapy suite, inpatient nursing areas, or outpatient areas.
