A Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) diagnoses and treats conditions that affect the ability to communicate and swallow. As an expert in communication, the SLP assesses, diagnoses, treats and helps prevent speech, language, voice and swallowing disorders. In this role, you will help patients improve their speech, open new communication possibilities and enhance their ability to comprehend others, express themselves, and swallow safely. This caregiver will primarily work with the Speech Therapy department and collaborate with the entire Rehabilitation team.

You will have the opportunity to float to other Cleveland Clinic facilities, gaining valuable experience and broadening your skills. In addition to supporting others, you can take advantage of Cleveland Clinic’s extensive resources and educational programs to continuously improve your own professional development.

A caregiver in this position works days as needed from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with 1 weekend per month and rotating holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Evaluate and treat patients with injuries and/or diseases which result in a loss or impairment of speech, language, voice, cognitive and/or swallowing function.  

Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patients’ conditions.  

Establish goals and plans of care.  

Perform therapy interventions utilizing standard speech therapy techniques and skills.  

Complete documentation.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Master’s Degree 

Graduate of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Program 

Current Ohio license as a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) 

Hold or have applied for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association 

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:

Manual dexterity and visual acuity to perform tasks needed for patient care and administrative tasks.

Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Personal Protective Equipment:
