Spectrum News LA - In-Semester Intern

At a Glance

A part time, 4-month program where you’ll work with a Spectrum News team, contributing to meaningful projects while learning how journalism comes together in some of the nation's most influential cities.  Your schedule will be organized around your semester schedule.

The Spectrum Internship Experience
You’ll join one of our newsrooms for the semester, where you will build a strong understanding of reporting, producing, and other departments that are of interest to you. 

Opportunities to gain new skills and elevate the ones you already have.Build connections with our team members and senior leaders who can help you better understand what our business looks like and what it’s like to work here.Receive mentorship from a member of our team, who can provide one-on-one advice to help you reach your professional goals.  

What you can expect in this role 

As a Spectrum News intern, we have a variety of areas that you can spend the semester learning and working alongside our staff in the areas that are of interest to you.

Internship responsibilities may include

Pitch, research, and develop storiesAssist with live shows and field productionLearn professional editing, shooting, and writingWork with reporters, producers, editors, and digital teamsSupport daily newsroom operationsGain exposure to multiple tracks, including:Reporting / MMJ (Multimedia Journalist)Editorial & Story DevelopmentDigital & Audience EngagementProduction & Control Room OperationsWriting & Research

Required qualifications

Must be currently enrolled in an accredited College or University completing a bachelor’s degreeAuthorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship
