Position: Radioanalytical Chemist (Spectroscopist)
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Location: Onsite – Everett, WA
 

Position Overview

System One is seeking a skilled and motivated Radioanalytical Chemist to support a nuclear R&D program in Everett, WA. This 12-month onsite contract role involves developing and applying spectroscopic techniques to analyze chloride-based molten salts, supporting advanced nuclear technology development.

The ideal candidate will contribute to experimental design, hands-on lab work, data analysis, and technical reporting. Success in this role requires effective collaboration across a multidisciplinary team, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and scientific integrity.

Responsibilities

Design and execute experiments focused on spectroscopic analysis of molten salts

Develop and refine spectroscopic techniques and calibration models

Maintain and operate spectroscopic equipment, including lasers and gloveboxes

Perform data analysis and communicate results to technical teams

Prepare standard and custom molten salt compositions for research

Contribute to technical documentation, including reports, presentations, and manuscripts

Maintain laboratory procedures and ensure data quality

Comply with all safety and radiation protection protocols

Collaborate effectively with safety personnel and technical peers

Support continuous improvement and R&D team objectives

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following:

Master’s degree in Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or related field with 0–2 years of relevant experience
OR

Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 0–4 years of relevant experience

Preferred Experience and Skills

Hands-on laboratory experience in chemistry, physics, or radiochemistry

Familiarity with spectroscopic techniques such as Absorption Spectroscopy, LIBS, and Raman Spectroscopy

Experience with inert atmospheres (e.g., gloveboxes, Schlenk lines)

Background in data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Origin)

Exposure to handling actinides is a plus

Strong organizational, technical writing, and presentation skills

Ability to interpret and incorporate regulatory or technical standards into project documentation

Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment

Strong attention to safety, quality, and team communication

Job Functions and Working Conditions
