UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown, NY is seeking detail-oriented, motivated individuals to join our team as a Full-Time Flex Specimen Processor. In this vital role, you’ll support patient care by receiving, sorting, processing, and distributing lab specimens across departments. With variable shifts between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., plus required weekends and holidays, this position offers flexible scheduling, cross-training opportunities, and the chance to collaborate with multiple healthcare teams.
Preferred candidates will have experience in healthcare, electronic medical records (EMR), and medical terminology. You’ll also handle data entry, phone communication, result reporting, and training support, playing an essential part in lab operations.

In this role, there will be the opportunity to-
+ Demonstrate a service-oriented approach by showing courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in all work situations.
+ Show initiative and offer assistance to support the completion of departmental tasks.
+ Monitor pneumatic tube and courier deliveries to ensure timely specimen processing.
+ Investigate and resolve specimen issues or requesting errors; request assistance and complete quality forms as needed.
+ Separate specimens by centrifugation, label aliquot tubes, transfer per policy, and store samples at proper temperatures.
+ Enter specimen receive times into the computer and answer inquiries about specimen collection, results, and reference ranges.
+ Follow all safety regulations when handling biohazardous materials or sharps to prevent exposure.
+ Verify specimen identity against requisitions or labels and request information in the Laboratory Information System when necessary.
+ Prepare, package, and send specimens to external locations according to protocol.
+ Disinfect work areas regularly, participate in training new staff, and perform routine technical and clerical duties as directed.
Required:
+ High School diploma or equivalent.
+ Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups and populations of external and internal customers (as well as co-workers) both by telephone and in person.
Preferred:
+ Three to six months of experience in a clinical laboratory, physician's office, or other medical environment, including knowledge of or experience in Medical Terminology and Laboratory Information systems.
+ Three to six months of experience in a service environment including call center, customer service center, or product distribution/fulfillment center.
+ Electronic Medical Records experience.
+ Healthcare experience.
