Location: Fishers Hospital – Orthopedics Department
Schedule: 7:30a to 4:00p
The Registration Specialist plays a vital role in facilitating patient flow from entry to destination in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. This position ensures the creation of accurate financial and demographic records to support optimal reimbursement and clinical outcomes.
Daily Responsibilities:Opening Duties:Arrive 20 minutes prior to the first appointment of the day
Turn on clinic lights and waiting room TV
Unlock/open clinic doors
Verify all patients are pre-registered for the day
Check fax machine and retrieve iPads if needed
Pull records and referrals for the day
Check in virtual patients
Check-In Duties:Ensure patient location is accurate in Cerner
Verify pre-registration status
Check in patients, scan insurance/ID, and complete paperwork
Monitor and clear work queue twice daily
Respond to front office pool messages by end of day
Scan documents and manage medical records as needed
Review bump list and manage mail/new patient/no-show letters
Check-Out Duties:Schedule follow-up appointments and provide appointment cards
Review and work Luma report daily; call patients who cancel without rescheduling
Ensure work queue is cleared by end of day
Closing Duties:Plug in MAARTI or iPads if needed
Check and empty fax and printer trays
Confirm with clinical staff that all patients have been checked out
Tidy waiting room and dispose of trash
Collect yellow superbills and place in designated tray
Turn off lights and lock doors (if applicable)
Key Responsibilities:Schedule appointments and interview patients to collect medical information
Explain departmental and hospital charges and policies
Validate and enter charges into appropriate systems
Collect necessary payments
Answer incoming calls and direct patients and visitors appropriately
Qualifications:High School Diploma or GED required
Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred
Ability to learn and retain medical coding (ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred)
Ability to interpret insurance information; knowledge of clinical practices and medical terminology preferred
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
