About the role
The Specialist - Geographic Information System (GIS) is responsible for analyzing, managing, and interpreting geographic data using advanced software and tools. The individual collaborates with cross-functional teams to support decision-making processes and ensure the accurate representation of geographic information.
In this role, you will.
The ability to work unsupervised Be able to communicate with Lands Officers, technical and non-technical staff To translate mapping concepts from one culture to another Team player with an interest in GIS applications and associations Maintain update the GIS records and provide maps and advice to lands officers to support the processing of land claims Collect, manage, and analyze geographic data from various sources, including maps, satellite imagery, and remote sensing data. Use GIS software and tools to create, edit, and update spatial datasets Develop high-quality maps, charts, and reports to visually represent geographic information and aid understanding. Ensure accuracy, clarity, and effective visual communication of spatial data Organize and maintain large databases of geographic information, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and accessibility. Regularly update and verify data accuracy to facilitate efficient data sharing and retrieval Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to users of GIS software and tools. Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of GIS hardware and software systems Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with PJV Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health rules and proceduresAbout You

Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Information Science, or a related field Competency in MapInfo, Relational Database, MS Excel, MS Word Previous experience with GIS in a socio-economic context, AutoCAD or equivalent software Higher understanding of Map Basic, SQL and ODBC linkages Tok Pisin literacy and skills to cope up with new culture Strong proficiency in GIS software, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or MapInfo Proficiency in spatial analysis techniques, including overlay, proximity analysis, and spatial modeling Solid understanding of cartographic principles and map production techniques Excellent data management skills, including database design, data manipulation, and data quality assurance Knowledge of programming languages commonly used in GIS Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and present findings to non-technical users Be available for occasional travel to conduct fieldwork, collect data, or participate in GIS-related projectsMobilization Requirement
This is a PNG National Staff position, a site-based role on a Fly in Fly out arrangement with rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage) and have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
