Responsibilities

Oversee medical professional liability claims and litigation for the Ascension Health Alliance Professional Liability and General Liability Self-Insurance Trust. Responsible for developing and executing case strategy, conducting thorough investigation, and overseeing the case action plan in collaboration with the insured hospital or provider and defense counsel.

 

Investigate and process general and professional liability claims from first notice of loss through resolution including coverage, liability, and damage evaluations, caseload management, and resolution.Manage all aspects of litigated claims, demonstrating significant experience with litigation management, including overseeing discovery requests, reviewing and analyzing medical records, and collaborating with defense counsel on expert witness retention.Establish reserves based on protocols and authority procedures.Oversee litigation assigned to external counsel pursuant to established guidelines. Manage panel counsel retained for litigated claims.Develop comprehensive claim strategies for the defense and resolution of professional liability (medical malpractice) claims.Prepare and deliver presentations on large loss matters and claim authority requests to the National Claims Committee and senior leadership.Collaborate with Risk Management team regarding lessons learned and mitigation efforts.Attend depositions, meetings with insureds, mediations, and trials. Negotiate settlements directly with patients, plaintiff attorneys and/or direct defense counsel within approved authority.

Requirements

Education:

High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's
degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific
experience required.2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
