ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. • Inspection of vehicles, discovery and diagnosis of defects and unsafe conditions of buses, and of planning and performing repairs, additions, replacements, and adjustments with a minimum of supervision • Exercises sound judgment of assigned duties • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must possess all qualifications required to work in subordinate classifications and perform all duties with a speed and accuracy satisfactory to supervisory authorities. Must develop knowledge of company policies pertaining to the work involved. Must be thoroughly familiar with the operation and function of all types of bus equipment and have a complete knowledge of D.O.T. rules and regulations pertaining to the operation of buses in New York State. Must be able to wear and utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must explain and demonstrate to others all job details, methods and procedures when directed to do so by the Supervisor or his deputies. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to maintain effective working relationships. Must be able to obtain certification under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 and or 609 for refrigerants. Must be able to operate and be certified to operate a PIV (powered industrial vehicle/fork truck) Posses the ability to operate safely and effectively common equipment for the position, to include but not limited to, Pallet jacks, Plows trucks, Buses etc. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, climbing (ladders), twisting, rotating and/or crawling (under bus). May also involve lifting (10-80+ pounds), carrying (10-60 pounds), pushing and/or pulling (5-15 pounds) materials and/or equipment. Job involves standing one hour at a time for four hours per day, sitting for two hours per day and walking one hour at a time for two hours per day. ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: 80% of time is spent inside, 20% of time is spent outside, exposing employee to natural environmental conditions. Work exposes employees to fumes, dust, gases, odors and mist. Employee is also exposed to noise, vibration, hazards (slip and fall, chemicals) and motorized vehicles. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid New York Driver’s License with the ability to obtain and maintain a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-BP) and then obtain & maintain CDL A with towing endorsement.
