Specialist, AI and Software Engineer
Feb 2025 TITLE:Specialist, AI and Software Engineer RESPONSIBLE TO:Senior Director, AI and Technology Innovation DEPARTMENT:Digital & Technology Services SUPERVISES:N/A FLSA STATUS:Exempt BASIC FUNCTION: We are seeking a dedicated AI and Software Engineer to support our company’s newly evolving AI systems while also supporting the development team on full-stack application development, We are a small dynamic team and this role has the unique opportunity to split focus on building new AI solutions such as agents, bots, and automation on emerging technologies and also participates in full-stack development. This includes maintaining and evolving code repositories in Azure DevOps and assisting with deploying and managing resources in Microsoft Azure. The Engineer will gain hands-on experience with medallion architecture, development across the Microsoft platform and other emerging technologies. • The ideal candidate is a tech-savvy professional with an in-depth understanding of AI technologies and Azure development stack. • The ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies is essential. • Provide technical support and guidance • Coordinate with developers and data scientists to improve system performance • Stay abreast of the latest AI technologies and methodologies • Ultimately, the AI and Software Engineer will enhance our AI landscape and contribute to building high-quality applications that align with our business needs. SPECIFIC DUTIES: AI Solutioning: • Contribute to AI project tasks (such as AI API integrations, AI agent development, data preparation, or experimenting with machine learning models). • Develop and deploy AI models using Copilot Studio. • Collaborate with development teams to integrate AI solutions into applications. • Configure and manage Azure OpenAI services. • Implement and monitor AI models on Azure OpenAI. • Ensure seamless integration with other Azure services. • Research, evaluate, and implement unique AI technologies Software Engineering: • Ensure system security and data integrity. • Support the development and maintenance of server-side applications using Node.js, Express, and Prisma. • Assist with managing code repositories, branching, pull requests, and reviews in Azure DevOps. • Support and troubleshoot Azure deployments, app services, and configuration settings. • Help configure and monitor CI/CD pipelines for automated builds and deployments. • Write and maintain technical documentation for software solutions. • Participate in collaborative development practices such as pair programming and code reviews. • Conduct unit and integration testing to ensure high code quality. • Explore Microsoft Fabric notebooks and assist in data engineering activities. • Attend regular team meetings, training sessions, and mentorship opportunities to grow technical and professional skills RELATIONSHIPS: • Internal: Daily contact with GII team members revolving around project and project needs. • GII Members: Frequent contact with local Goodwill organizations to help identify project requirements. • Outside: Frequent contact with consultants and suppliers. • Government Officials: N/A SKILLS NEEDED: • Experience with AI technologies and platforms, including Microsoft, OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and others • Willingness to learn new AI technologies is mandatory • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and libraries • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude • Excellent communication skills • Exposure to AI/machine learning concepts or interest in AI/ML development • Strong knowledge of C#, SQL, HTML, CSS, and TypeScript. • Hands-on experience with React, Bootstrap, Node.js, Express, and Prisma. • Familiarity with Git-based code management and Azure DevOps workflows (branching, merging, pull requests). • Foundational to deep understanding of Microsoft Azure cloud environments (App Services, Databases, Resource Groups). • Ownership for continuous improvement and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines. • Experience in modern Azure data architectures (e.g., medallion model: bronze, silver, gold layers) and data lake concepts. • Proactive, problem-solving mindset with strong communication and collaboration skills. • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience preferred. • Professional certification (e.g. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) is a plus • Experience with Azure services. • Prior experience implementing cloud security and compliance best practices. • Prior experience in monitoring and performance optimization of Azure-based systems. Preferred but not required: • Strong foundation with Azure Functions, Azure Data Factory, or Delta Lake. • Experience with containerization tools (e.g., Docker) or infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform. • Additional knowledge of other front-end or back-end frameworks (Angular, Vue, ASP.NET Core) a plus. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate or Data Scientist Professional, Google, OpenAI, or other AI technology certifications EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate is a tech-savvy professional with an in-depth understanding of AI technologies and system administration DECISION MAKING: Decisions related to diagnosing problems and implementing corrective action. SUPERVISION: General – Latitude is given to determine approaches, procedures, and methodologies for accomplishing the work. Receive administrative review. Work is reviewed to assure that it is conceptually sound and meets assignment objectives. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Medium, lifting 30 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 15 lbs. Walking or standing to a significant degree, involves sitting most of the time. May require long hours at a personal computer. EMOTIONAL EFFORT: Medium, frequent short deadlines requiring some overtime. Work environment usually hectic with periods of high stress.
