Responsibilities
Responsibilities:Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on watercraft, outboard and inboard marine engines, jet propulsion systems, hydraulic steering, fuel systems, and hull structures.Conduct inspections and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate diagnostic equipment and tools.Maintain operational readiness of special purpose vehicles such as amphibious or marine rescue units.Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations pertaining to marine maintenance and fuel handling.Maintain accurate maintenance records, including parts usage, labor hours, and inspection logs.Coordinate with supply and logistics teams to requisition and track marine-specific parts and consumables.Provide input on modifications or enhancements to improve watercraft reliability and mission performance.Support loading/unloading, storage, and safe transportation of marine vehicles and associated equipment.Train and guide junior personnel or assistants in proper maintenance procedures.This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Qualifications
Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent required.Formal training or certification in marine mechanics or diesel/marine engine repair (OEM or military preferred).Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience maintaining marine vehicles or equipment, including work in remote or austere environments.Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools, marine service software, and technical manuals.Ability to interpret schematics, service bulletins, and safety regulations.Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitude.Capable of lifting 50 lbs and working in confined spaces or harsh environments.Must be willing and able to work on Ascension Island under rotating or extended shifts.Must possess or be eligible for a U.S. Secret security clearance.At V2X, we are deeply committed to both equal employment opportunity, including protection for Veterans and individuals with disabilities, and fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. The Special Purpose Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic (Marine) is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of marine vessels, watercraft systems, and associated mechanical equipment on Ascension Island. This includes working on small boats, rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs), amphibious vehicles, and marine engines. The mechanic ensures all marine vehicles are mission-ready, compliant with safety standards, and properly maintained for operational use in a remote island environment.
