Position Title: Special Education Teacher
Location: Fulton, MD 20759
Schedule: Monday–Friday, School Hours
Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract Length: 4 months (Maternity Coverage)
Start Date: March 9, 2026 or upon credentialing (approximately 3 weeks from offer)

Position Overview
Amergis Healthcare Staffing is seeking two dedicated Special Education Teachers to support students within the specialized programs, a public-school-based program serving students with intensive needs. Candidates should be comfortable working in a higher-acuity environment than a typical public school setting and committed to delivering high-quality instruction and individualized support.
Assignment Details (2 Long-Term Substitute Roles)
1. High School Classroom (Multiple Disabilities)
+ Class size: 4–5 students
+ All students use wheelchairs
+ Students have multiple disabilities
+ Most students use communication systems
+ Support required for toileting and feeding
+ Three students require tube feeding
+ Staffing support: 2 paraprofessionals and 1 student assistant
2. Cornerstone Program (Elementary)
+ Students: 2 first graders, 1 fourth grader
+ All students diagnosed with Autism
+ Structure: 1:1 teacher + 1 para per student (3 total students)
+ Additional support staff: 2
+ Lesson plans provided in advance
+ Teacher oversees classroom and implementation
Responsibilities
+ Provide daily instruction to K–12 special education students
+ Implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
+ Collaborate with paraprofessionals and school staff
+ Assist with communication systems, adaptive equipment, and daily care tasks when needed
+ Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to district policies
+ Foster a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
Minimum Requirements
+ Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution (preferred)
+ Valid teaching certification per state/district requirements
+ Standard Elementary Teaching (preferred)
+ Standard Secondary Teaching (preferred)
+ Standard Special Education Teaching (preferred)
+ LBS1 Endorsement (preferred, if applicable)
+ Minimum 1 year experience in a teaching environment (preferred)
+ CPR certification (if applicable)
+ TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray (if applicable)
+ Current health certificate per contract/state regulation
+ Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
