Location: San Jose, California
Setting: Mild–Moderate Mixed Needs Classroom (Inclusion + Pull-Out Services)
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Compensation: $70/hour
Gross Weekly Pay: $2,800
Language: Bilingual (Spanish) preferred, not required
Start: ASAP or per district schedule
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and student-centered Special Education Teacher to support a mild to moderate mixed needs caseload within an inclusion-focused elementary program. This role involves both push-in support for general education classrooms and targeted pull-out instruction for students requiring specialized intervention. The ideal educator demonstrates strong case management skills, collaborative practice, and the ability to deliver high-quality specialized instruction.
Bilingual Spanish skills are valued but not required.
Caseload & Service Model
+ Current caseload: 20 students
+ Possible caseload increase: up to 28 students
+ Model: Primarily inclusion/co-teaching, with pull-out for targeted supports
+ Students present with a variety of mild–moderate needs requiring academic, behavioral, and organizational interventions.
Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Intervention
+ Provide specially designed instruction (SDI) aligned to IEP goals in literacy, math, social-emotional learning, and functional academic skills.
+ Deliver a combination of push-in inclusion support and pull-out small-group instruction.
+ Modify materials, curriculum, and assessments based on student needs.
+ Implement evidence-based programs and conduct ongoing progress monitoring.
IEP Development & Case Management
+ Lead IEP processes for a caseload of 20–28 students.
+ Conduct assessments, develop measurable goals, and determine appropriate accommodations and modifications.
+ Prepare and deliver IEP progress reports and maintain compliance with district and state timelines.
+ Coordinate with families, teachers, service providers, and support staff.
Collaboration & Schoolwide Support
+ Co-teach, co-plan, and consult regularly with general education teachers.
+ Collaborate with school psychologists, behavior teams, SLPs, OTs/PTs, and administrators.
+ Support general education staff in implementing inclusive practices, UDL, and accommodations.
Behavior & Social-Emotional Support
+ Implement evidence-based behavior strategies aligned with PBIS or similar frameworks.
+ Establish clear routines, expectations, and positive reinforcement practices.
+ Support students with self-regulation, social communication, and problem-solving skills.
Professional Practice
+ Maintain accurate documentation, data, and service logs.
+ Uphold compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and district policies.
+ Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development.
Education & Certification Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field.
+ Active California Education Specialist Instruction Credential – Mild/Moderate Support Needs (MMSN) or equivalent authorization.
+ Ability to meet district credentialing/clearance requirements (background check, TB test).
+ EL Authorization (CLAD/BCLAD) or ability to obtain.
Preferred
+ Experience working in an inclusion/co-teaching environment.
+ Prior experience with mild–moderate mixed caseloads.
+ Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required.
+ Training in structured literacy, UDL, or behavior support frameworks.
Student Populations Served (Mild–Moderate)
+ Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) – dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia.
+ Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – requiring mild to moderate support.
+ ADHD and Other Health Impairments.
+ Speech/Language Impairments (SLI).
+ Students with social-emotional or behavioral regulation needs.
Work Hours & Compensation
+ Hours: 40 hours weekly
+ Normal school hours
+ Pay: $70 per hour
+ Gross Weekly Pay: $2,800
