Setting: Onsite, Elementary (K–5)
Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week
Compensation: Local pay $55/hour for certified teachers; travel packages available for eligible non-local candidates

About the Role
Amergis is actively hiring and seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support elementary students with mild to moderate disabilities in a collaborative, inclusive school environment. The ideal candidate brings strong instructional skills, a student-first mindset, and the ability to effectively partner with general education teachers, related service providers, and families. Spanish bilingual skills are a strong plus to serve our community and engage families.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
+ Instruction & Intervention
+ Deliver specially designed instruction (SDI) aligned to IEP goals in literacy, math, social-emotional learning, and executive functioning.
+ Provide push-in and pull-out services; adapt curriculum and materials for accessibility.
+ Implement evidence-based interventions, progress monitoring, and MTSS/RTI supports.
+ IEP Development & Case Management
+ Lead IEP processes: assessment, goal writing (measurable/standards-aligned), accommodations/modifications, and service minutes.
+ Facilitate IEP meetings with families, general education teachers, and related service providers.
+ Maintain compliant documentation, timelines, and progress reports.
+ Collaboration & Consultation
+ Co-plan and co-teach with general education staff to support inclusive practices.
+ Collaborate with school psychologists, SLPs, OTs, PTs, counselors, and behavior teams.
+ Communicate regularly with families; provide resources and strategies for home support.
+ Classroom & Behavior Support
+ Establish a positive, trauma-informed classroom environment with clear routines.
+ Implement behavior supports, reinforcement systems, and de-escalation strategies.
+ Use data (ABC charts, progress monitoring tools) to adjust behavior plans and instruction.
+ Compliance & Professional Practice
+ Adhere to federal/state regulations (IDEA, Section 504) and district policies.
+ Protect student confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
+ Participate in professional development and remain current on best practices.
Education & Certification Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or related field.
+ California Education Specialist Instruction Credential – Mild/Moderate Support Needs (MMSN) or equivalent authorization appropriate for elementary grade levels.
+ EL Authorization (e.g., CLAD/BCLAD) or ability to obtain per district requirements.
+ Passing scores on required California educator exams (e.g., CBEST; others as applicable).
+ Current TB clearance and fingerprint/background check eligibility.
Preferred:
+ Bilingual (Spanish/English) proficiency—verbal and written—able to communicate with students and families and participate in IEP meetings.
+ Prior onsite elementary school experience.
+ Training in evidence-based reading/math interventions (e.g., Orton-Gillingham/Structured Literacy, UDL, co-teaching models).
+ Experience with behavior supports (PBIS, restorative practices) and data-driven instruction.
Student Populations (Mild–Moderate) You May Support
+ Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) – dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, processing deficits.
+ ADHD/Other Health Impairments (OHI) – attention, executive function, health-related needs.
+ Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – students requiring mild to moderate supports in communication, social skills, and sensory regulation.
+ Speech/Language Impairments (SLI) – receptive/expressive language, articulation impacts on academics.
+ Emotional/Behavioral Needs – mild to moderate challenges affecting self-regulation, behavior, and access to instruction.
Common Challenges & How You’ll Address Them
+ Reading and language-based learning gaps: structured literacy, explicit phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies.
+ Math reasoning/calculation needs: concrete–representational–abstract (CRA), scaffolded problem-solving.
+ Executive function/attention: routines, visual schedules, chunking, assistive tech, checklists.
+ Social-emotional/behavioral: SEL curricula, positive reinforcement, functional behavior supports.
+ Access & participation: accommodations, modifications, UDL, and inclusive co-teaching models.
Core Skills & Competencies
+ Strong IEP writing and goal alignment to standards.
+ Data collection, analysis, and progress monitoring.
+ Differentiation, accommodations, and modifications.
+ Culturally and linguistically responsive practices (Spanish a plus).
+ Collaboration, clear communication, and family engagement.
+ Tech proficiency: IEP systems, learning platforms, assistive technology.
Work Hours & Compensation
+ Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full-time, onsite).
+ Local Pay: $55/hour for certified teachers.
