Special Education Teacher (LBS1) | Calumet City, IL Position Details • Modality: Special Education Teacher (LBS1) • Location: Calumet City, IL • Grade Levels: K–2 Cross-Cat or 7th Grade Resource • Schedule: 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. • Start Date: ASAP • End Date: End of School Year About the Role We are seeking TWO dedicated Special Education Teachers to support students in either a K–2 Cross-Categorical classroom or a 7th-grade Resource setting. These roles offer the opportunity to make a meaningful impact with strong team collaboration and a focus on student growth. Both placements serve diverse learners who benefit from individualized instruction, structured support, and consistent communication with general education staff. Positions: K–2 Cross-Categorical (Self-Contained) • Up to 13 students • Paraprofessional support in the classroom • Focus on foundational academic and behavioral skill development • Ideal for educators skilled in early intervention and differentiation 7th Grade Resource • 16 students on caseload • No paraprofessional support • Push-in and pull-out services as needed • Ideal for teachers confident in organization, case management, and middle-school collaboration Key Responsibilities • Deliver high-quality specialized instruction aligned to student IEPs • Support IEP development, progress monitoring, and documentation • Collaborate with classroom teachers and service providers on accommodations and interventions • Create a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment • Maintain compliance with district, state, and federal regulations Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred • Valid state teaching certificate as required by district and state regulations • Minimum one year of experience in a teaching environment preferred • Preferred state certifications: Standard Elementary, Standard Secondary, Standard Special Teaching • Illinois Professional Educator License with the Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) endorsement required • Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice • Current CPR certification if applicable • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray if applicable • Current health certificate as required • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements • Must be at least 18 years of age Benefits At Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits: + Competitive pay & weekly paychecks + Health, dental, vision, and life insurance + 401(k) savings plan + Awards and recognition programs *Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status.
