We are seeking a dedicated Mild/Moderate Special Education Teacher to join our elementary team. The ideal candidate is student-centered, collaborative, and passionate about supporting diverse learners. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply, but bilingual ability is not required.
Responsibilities
The Special Education Teacher will provide services to elementary students with mild to moderate disabilities in accordance with California Education Code and district policies. Core responsibilities include:
Instruction & Student Support
+ Provide specialized academic instruction (SAI) in inclusive and/or pull-out settings.
+ Develop and implement individualized instruction aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
+ Utilize evidence-based strategies to support academic, social-emotional, and behavioral growth.
+ Modify curriculum, assignments, materials, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.
IEP Development & Case Management
+ Serve as the primary case manager for an assigned caseload of students.
+ Conduct assessments and prepare legally compliant IEP documents.
+ Facilitate IEP meetings in collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams.
+ Monitor student progress and adjust goals and supports as needed.
Collaboration & Communication
+ Work closely with general education teachers to support inclusive practices.
+ Partner with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators.
+ Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
+ Participate in school-wide professional development and team meetings.
Compliance & Professionalism
+ Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with district and state requirements.
+ Ensure services meet all IDEA, state, and district compliance standards.
+ Uphold a positive, student-focused, and culturally responsive classroom environment.
Required Qualifications
+ Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential in Mild/Moderate Support Needs
OR
+ Ability to obtain appropriate credentialing or intern eligibility
+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
+ Knowledge of California state standards, IEP processes, and special education compliance
+ Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience working in elementary settings
+ Bilingual (Spanish/English or other languages) — preferred, not required
+ Experience with inclusive practices and collaboration with general education partners
+ Familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and behavior intervention strategies
