Special Education Teacher – Scappoose School District (Scappoose, OR)
Full-Time | 40 hrs/week | Remainder of 25/26 SY | Pay Rate: $58–$60/hr
Position Overview
The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, provides quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12. The Special Education Teacher participates as part of a collaborative team in planning and implementing student programs, including special instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation with general education staff.
Minimum Requirements
+ Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred
+ Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract, or district regulations
+ Minimum of one year of teaching experience preferred
+ State Teacher Certification preferred in:
+ Standard Elementary Teaching
+ Standard Secondary Teaching
+ Standard Special Teaching
+ Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
+ Current CPR if applicable
+ TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray if applicable
+ Current Health Certificate (per contract or state regulation)
+ Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
Essential Job Details
+ Position: 1 Special Education Teacher
+ District: Scappoose School District
+ Location: Scappoose, OR
+ Start Date: ASAP
+ Contract Length: 4 months (remainder of school year)
+ Option to renew into the 26/27 school year if mutually agreeable
+ Schedule: Monday–Friday
+ Hours: 40 hours/week
+ Includes a required 30-minute unpaid break for shifts over 6 hours
Assignment Details
+ Primary Focus: Work alongside a 5th grade student with severe behaviors
+ Student Needs Include:
+ Severe dysregulation
+ Seizure disorder
+ Pica
+ Non-verbal communication
+ Elopement
+ Hitting, kicking, biting
+ Toileting needs
+ AAC device use
+ Caseload: Primarily one student; district is working toward inclusion/push-in model
+ Case Management: IEP meeting already completed for the year; only note updates required
+ Duties:
+ Provide direct support in a push-in classroom
+ Monitor seizures
+ Support communication via AAC
+ Manage high-needs behaviors with patience and expertise
Technical Skills & Qualifications
+ Active Oregon SPED Teaching License
+ Previous experience working with extreme behaviors required
+ Ability to work in person for the full 25/26 school year
